Lol yeah temp guage problem one. Abs tc not really a problem till the mot in 12months. im told its an intermittent fault which i believe to be true as i guess it would have failed on mot if it was on all the time. unless its possible to remove the warning bulbs!!

If the ECU is the later NNN type it can be reprogrammed from a Disco to Defender. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

Did not think a 2001 X-Tech had ABS and TC.

hmmmmm. interesting. The lights are illuminated though. Unless this is the defender ecu causing it to think it has abs traction control etc?? Will the injector wiring harness really cause this problem or just the ecu? A chap on the dreaded bay is selling nnn or msb (what ever these are) ecus saying they are plug and play?? is that correct?

Thought ABS & TC was an option on all TD5s look for the wire sensors on the inside of the wheels.

ah sorry about that, im using my phone and its useless, i didnt see the answer. Ok well i will have to try get it reprogrammed or plump up the cash for the ecu on ebay which is supposed to be plug and play and include a power remap. 395 for the msb or 495 for nnn. whatever that means.
cheers all |

MSB and NNN are the two types of ECU.
MSB are the older ones that can not be reprogrammed they physically have to have a chip removed and new one soldered in. NNN are the later ones that can be reprogrammed Andy |

If you look on the ECU there should be a part number, if it starts NNN such as NNN000120 then it can be reprogrammed as a Defender ECU. If it starts MSB then it can't be changed from one to the other as far as I am aware.
Any Land Rover specialist should be able to change it over for you if it's an NNN type, shouldn't cost much as it only takes a few minutes with an Autologic or similar unit. I got two done in around 20 minutes including putting in the injector codes and training them to the immobiliser. The ECUs come up on ebay regularly, you can usually get them for under £200. This one for example... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140898897603 I'm sure one of the forum sponsors will be able to help either way. Given the odd history it would be worth checking the injector codes on the engine actually match those in the ECU. You just have to take the rocker cover off the top of the engine and make a note of them (printed on the top of each injector). http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

You can't programme a Discovery ECU to a Defender one.

Yes you can... Apart from NNN000250 as there is technically no Defender map - as that ECU is unique to a Disco. Any NNN500020 or NNN000120 can be 'reflashed' to a Defender or Disco. As a bit of bodge, you can convert a MSB none flash as wel.. With a Disco Cal on a Defender the temp gauge will work the wrong way round. If I used a discovery ecu you say the temp gauge works backwards. Maybe that is what I need then. Phil |
