One thing being overlooked here possibly is the intangible of the perceived 'added value' of a LR service history in your Service Book when it comes to resale. Yes, you may well sell to an enthusiast who appreciates the quality of work (and your motivation as the owner) of a local Indy but if you sell to someone in another 'category' you might find the price you can fetch is higher with the 'full Land Rover service history' angle.

Doing it yourself is all fine and dandy if you've got the time, space and inclination. As part of my purchase plan I factored in the cost of someone else getting underneath and doing the dirty work.

Each to his own, as ever. Thumbs Up D300 HSE 110

£388.20 @ LR Hereford - Jan 2012, first service + warranty work + Defender courtesy car. Shatstones in the Mids area were £20 quid cheaper but I'd rather travel 50 miles, book a day off work and spend the extra knowing the guys do a half decent job and take care of my vehicle when its in!!

Thumbs Up Just collected mine £380.17 Used SLX Oil A5/30 whatever that is Confused

As well as the corrosion check they carry out a 40 point check on things like checking and topping up transfer box and axles, check/tighten steering box, free play in props, axles, suspension fittings etc as well as headlight alignment, belts, ball joints, seat belts bla bla. I watched them do one last time I was in for the handbrake recall which is why why I went for it this time, they go right through it. It's only £150 say more than an independent so worth it for peace of mind - depending on your dealer of course Whistle

thats crazy.

I don't know how to refer to other posts but if you look at page 3 of the general section you can see how pleased I was with Bradleys in Galway and it only cost the equivalent of £120. You could have a weekend in Galway, Defender serviced (properly) hotel, fuel, ferry for around the same money !!!
Don't care how high their overheads are. Thats daylight flippin robbery !

MJ Fews just quoted me £290 and THWhite.......... wait for it.......... over £500! I said 'no, sorry, it's a first service on a 110 2.4 Defender - you must be looking at the wrong list!'. She replied 'no, I'm looking at the correct list.' 8-/

When I told her that Fews were under £300 she immediately reduced the price to £345. I pointed out that that was £45 more than £300 whereas Fews are £10 under £300 so she said 'leave it with me and I'll see what I can do'

Utterly, utterly, unbelievable.

Defender 44K Service
Guy Salmon Northampton want £768 Big Cry For a 44K service even though the Defender has only 22k on the clocks.
When i asked what that involved for the large sum of money they wanted me to pay the service manager replied.
Well there is the oil filter & the air filter & there is 3 types of oil to be used & the labor of course.
I asked then in a sarcastic manner does the oil have gold flakes in it because the air & oil filter & 15 liters of oil is about £100 in parts & maybe 1-2hrs in labor should amount to £300+vat.
I told him I'll be going to an independent from now on, he then asked about my warranty, & told me it would be invalid if it the service wasn't carried out to which i agreed & that too would save me £825 a year.
£768 from the service.
£825 from LR extended warranty.
£1593 saved from the dealer Thumbs Up
