Well we have got the bedroom side units completed now and the oak looks pretty good with the "extreme" varnish.

Now I am going to tackle the kitchen side and the initial designs are below.

The purple bit will have all the usual spices, oils etc on it for taking to the bbq

I will need to get the design for the side out sink unit sorted. With that in mind does anyone have a good source for quick release gas and water connectors. I was going to hard plumb the gas and water to the bulkhead and then have the slide out sink unit plug in rather than dangling pipes everywhere.

I know there are surface caravan BBQ connectors but these are a bit big for what i have in mind.

I use these on all my camping equipment http://www.bes.co.uk/product/70~LPG~1751~1...ling-.html
Saves having to have a regulator on everything and I've also made up a Y adapter so that I can have the stove & BBQ running off the same gas bottle at the same time.

I have also found these people who do panel mount lab fittings which will do for the gas
http://www.coleparmer.co.uk/Product/Metal_...U-31403-72
and for the water Koolance water fittings used in PC cooling.

Am still looking though.

Pull out sink
The kitchen build is going along well with the last finishing coats being applied so more pictures soon.

In the mean time the sink has arrived and thoughts have turned to the pull out sink unit.

Here are some sketchup images of the various folding bits and you can see the idea of the burner flipping out of the sink for that morning cup of coffee.

I am probably going to built in a hardwood frame with phenolic laminate top. or possibly stainless / ali depending upon how i feel at the time. I have a bit more ash to use up so we shall see.

kitchen side install
Today the old heavy pine kitchen came out and the new carcass went in.

Just like that ....

Then the drawers which are made from the bodged ones in cherry from the bedroom side as they are smaller

Then attention turned to the pull out sink combo. This is going to be really tight fitting this in but i think will greatly enhance the useability of this space.
First off i made a recessed base to sit in between the runners as the sink needs to sit down as low as it can possibly go.

this was done in ash, domino jointed together for strength.

the plan is now to mock up the top unit in ply to see how it all goes together

what i have found is that the sink needs to be altered to get the tap connection accessible.

here are the quick release water fittings that i am using - originally made for cooling computers

over the weekend i will have a test install into the trailer and see what needs to be altered. the mock up has come up with one idea. there is a large storage area, where the sink isn't wich is just the right size for the instant water heater / shower unit. So the current plan is to create a fold up water heater unit, or possibly one that hangs on the open door so that everything is all together in one place.

see you all next time

pull out sink unit
here is the mock up.

the final version will be in ply with a laminate, as I have never tried laminating so now would be a good time to learn

Looks really good, how is the water heater going to be mounted? You woodwork looks far superior to mine however I did end up changing the cooker unit from wood to Aluminium as I found that it started to swell when it got wet from the sink etc and as I just used friction to hold it in it became difficult to open.

The sink is from a company called Can. You can get from caravan suppliers although it isnot cheap. And I had to alter a fair bit. But on the plus side hopefully it will fit.

I think I will hand the water heater on the end. I had an idea of flipping it up on the lid bit but that got a bit too close to the tent fit comfort. So it will be stored in the pull out drawer, taken out and connected when needed. I plan to have the sink and gas ring plumbed in fir cold and then plus in the hot supply wen camped. That will allow the enroute coffee break without much fuss.

pull out bar
Well no kitchen area will be complete without a pull out bar.

This is going to replace the metal box over the sink unit. The idea will be to have a double extension pull out unit with cups and glasses in font and the cocktail shaker behind.

Here it is closed

then one section pulls out

then the second

of course it will clash with the gas burner, but then the metal drawer does that at the moment

putting together the sink unit
today the sink unit goes together.

after filling screw holes on the base section I had my first go a laminating

here is the base sanded down

and a big roll of laminate from polyrey

chopped roughly to size with the track saw
that is then stuck on with evostick which will hopefully prove man enough for the task
and trimmed with a flush trim bit

i have used moisture resistant mdf for the top surface and have edged with ash

the sink is a tight squeeze

hopefully i can laminate some more tomorrow

keep watching

laminate and installation
with the carcass put together it is time to laminate up the top.

here are three shots showing the end which is glued up with evostik, left to dry to the touch. hen using a couple of dowels you can position the laminate before starting to firmly stick it using a metal roller to make sure it is fully adhered.

finally the trim router is used to clean up the edges

Then on to getting it into the trailer.

there was one cock up which i will tell you about once i get the plumbing done

Was this really posted on the 16th December!!??

I have been wathching this with interest as I am doing a similar unit to fit in the back of the 110 DC, all be it a LOT less involved due to the comparable skill levels!

I ordered my laminate yesterday so have picked up a good tip about the dowel.

BTW...Are those Veritas planes in the background? If so.....nice

Bow down
