I've got a small socket set which is not great for all the fettling ive been doing and will be doing in the coming year and would like to treat myself to a good set. Halfords have the usual 50% off but they usually have kits which are too comprehensive and offer a tonne of stuff I either already have or won't likely need anyway.
Snap-on stuff carries a great reputation but a great price tag too. If there a medium ground? Who makes good kit at good prices? Who would you recommend? |

For the kind of stuff us project guys do, Halfords really is a good option, especially if you get there 'Professional' range which has a lifetime guarantee.
If you really don't want to go that route, Snap on do a cheaper 'Bluepoint' range |

I use Teng socket sets. Started with something like this
http://toolstoday.co.uk/product/76977/teng...1?cat=2814 Now have 3/8 and 1/4 drive sets as well. Also have a few Halfords Professional tools as well and they are good quality. Another vote for halfords professional range. I have had my set for years and used it a lot. I haven't managed to break anything yet.
However, we have a laser socket set at work and that is pretty good too. Jim Last edited by Jimb1978 on 9th Dec 2012 7:21pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Halfords is made by Draper i believe?
... and Blue Point is bought in by Snap-on too I think. (Lazer?) Teng I've read mixed opinions on. Good to see you like them. |

Most of my stuff is snap on but with the halfords stuff now having a lifetime guarantee it sounds like the best compromise to me

Most of the lads at work (a commercial vehicle workshop) use Snap-On, and they are really good and reliable tools, although can sometimes be a bit pricy! But you usually get what you pay for! Halfords Professional tools are also very good, and are often much cheaper!

Halfords Pro, are pretty good. I have a set of Crescent from Costco, a big box with scanners and all sorts, in a briefcase type affair. While they've got a few rust spots now, I've not managed to break any of them (I used to use them on my roadside assistance van, doing about 30 jobs a day) Also got a Kamasa set of sockets in 1/2" drive, very good. As said Snap-On are good, but wildly overpriced.

Second vote for Teng.
I have these sets: 3/8: http://toolstoday.co.uk/product/76985/teng...9?cat=2813 1/4: http://toolstoday.co.uk/product/76981/teng...6?cat=2812 I have used and abused them daily for 18 months (I haven't needed a 1/2 drive set as the 3/8 has done it all. Also comes with full lifetime guarantee. Another brand that I love (even more than snap-on) is Facom...... shame their price is up there with snap-on though........ Keep dreaming Glyn Glyn |
