Violins again...

My wife just reminded me of this. She grew up in a very poor family (money not manners) and her dad did flea-markets and house clearances to earn cash. They even lived in a caravan (2 adults, 3 children and a dog) one very bad winter because a house buy fell through Sad

That Christmas, she got a second-hand Sindy doll with a dodgy arm (she'd wanted a Barbie for years). Even so, she was actually very happy until it disappeared...
Years later, her dad admitted he'd sold it on Shocked

Not really a bad present, more of a "bad Santa" Rolling with laughter Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Just received the worst one so far! Evil or Very Mad (I know this isn't really in the spirit of the thread)

A 'visit' on the night of the 5th at our Hair Salon, front door lock was forced (must have taken a bit of strength to break it)

Not too much damage but the nice chappies removed a large quantity of (retail only) stock, GHD hair straighteners (very popular at the car boot sales), staff christmas tips Sad , iPod music player and the 40" flat screen we installed this year to entertain the clients (along with half the wall it was attached to!)

Left all the non retail products , computer and new hair dryers, so they obviously came 'tooled up' and knew what to take. Two other salons in the area were done in the same night which is a bit of a coincidence. They forgot to bring any bags so had to use our towel bins and bin bags to carry it all away, must have been disturbed when at the front as about 1/3rd of the retail display was left (unless they were being very picky)

So all good fun, lost business due to 4hr CSI inspection, but on the bright side we did managed to help raise £350 for charity while the police were there, doing a sponsored 'remove my Moustach grown for movember' for the Tesco manager next door.

Not a nice thing to start the day for the girls, but have to say they were all brilliant and we went out for a meal and lots of drinks after work, as bit of a run through for the staff do next week (need to watch that grappa though Mr. Green )

Lets see how good the business insurance is that we have been paying into for the last 16 years!

Cheers for that, we are looking at upgrading security for stock and staff, considering a smoke cloak addition which looks good.

I hope they catch em, but not all that likely I think. They will be looking for ner do wells with very clean hair Rolling with laughter

You were lucky. We lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down the mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our dad would thrash us to sleep with his belt Wink

Ho Ho Rolling with laughter

Not me Matt, it's the Missus who's in charge of that, I just do the wages etc and dig deep on staff nights out! Its amazing how much it costs to keep 10 young ladies in baileys, wine and shots Big Cry Still they are quite amusing when tipsy!

Back on topic (should have put that in grumpy old man thread I guess)

My worst present was a set of overshoes with spikes, supposed to be for spiking the lawn when walking about, but in our soil once they were in the ground I had trouble getting them out again, so a bit pointless - thanks sis Whistle

Perfect for a fakir though I'd have thought.

All these Python references made me hanker after the original sketch :
