I didnt paid attention to this post for a while. Was a nice talking by letters with MSE at that time . I didnt feel bothered or hurt, just was an appasionated one. (Both loves Defenders I think)
A lot of water came trhough the bridge since (and to mi passenger side also). The only certain thing that we know is that LR have a project called IKON to replace the Defender (maybe MSE knows more but he cannot reveal that to us ) All the other things like the D3 base, the motor, were will be sold, etc. are rumours some of them more confirmed, but still rumours, nothing official. Im glad that LR are pouring money in the IKON and I hope that the new car can have all the heritage of the Series and the defender. My thoughts and quuestions regarding the main issues are still valid and are a part of all the projects: Objective market? How much they will sell?. Where they going to sell?. How much will cost the project and the car? Anyway, D3 looks nice but I love my Defender despite the problems that I had. Hi guys
Sorry to bump yer thread, but it's great to see some genuine love and compassion for the Defender amongst all the members I just bumped into this via a Google search for 'New Defender in 2013?': http://www.landrover-center.com/newsread.asp?id=669 Quote: "Defender II News Part 3 A couple of days ago Land Rover published a new picture of its advanced design director, Mr. Gerry McGovern. Is it a teaser from Land Rover, or a mistake? You can clearly see a fresh concept of the upcoming Defender replacement. The overall design is clearly a Defender and not the 2008/2009 Landie. The glass roof, front-facing rear seats and boxy limbs all point to a new Defender derivative. We'll have to wait and see. " Now, I realise this appears to be posted back in 2005, so forgive me for being a wee bit confused about the posters' comments. Anyone of you knowledgeable guys want a take on this ? Thanks a million |

Hmmm, might bite the bullet and get a 110 USW to replace the D3 after all. Claim the vat back and it makes a lot of sense

If the replacement for the current Defender is to be sold in the United States to get the "required" volume of sales that Land Rover reqire it will have to meet a lot of safety requirements. One of these is the ability to sustain it's structural integrity for a certain time if it goes over on it's roof. This means that the roof must be able to support the vehicle. I would say this rules out an aluminium alloy panel constructed vehicle like we have now. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

They've said they're sticking to Aluminium but I agree - it won't be panels. Most likely a monocoque on top of a chassis like we have in the D3/4 now. It'll be interesting to see how they cope with the number of body configurations required. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Humm, if they ask me...
Maybe a good steel cage covered with aluminium plates could do the job. Something similar to the Jeep Wrangler (sorry to name it here ) could be an option... (Anyway the first LR come from there. ) Cheers Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

Believe it or not I have it on good authority as I have an 'insider source' well, office cleaner actually
that they are considering retaining the original characature of the vehicle whilst meeting the great expectations of the American market also manufacturing the vehicle out of a totally non-corrosive material and thus allowing it to meet stringent criteria by being able to sit on it's roof without total collapse. It will also be available in kit form for those enthusiasts to build their own at home in whatever colours they wish. Please indulge me and allow me to reveal at great risk to myself the New Defender...... We should run a book on how many posts this thread will have by the time the 'New Defender' launch date is announced around 2020. Are people seriously considering holding off purchasing a Defender today to await the launch of the 'New One' er.....helllooooo wake up please.....It'll be a mobility scooter you'll be needing not a Land Rover. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |
