Just wondering what other peoples opinions on wheel carriers are? I had made my mind up i was going to get a Mantec one but after speaking to Brendan i now have the option of a Safari Equip one as well. Prices are very much the same, well close enough not to make any difference and although i can get a Mantec one from Flatdog who are 30 mins down the road, going to get one from Brendan isnt really much further, so that again wont make any difference.
So has anybody had both? Any pros and cons for either of them? Thanks for your help. Pete. |

Im not bothered about drilling into my bodywork, its not something i plan on taking off anytime so the holes shouldnt be a problem. Thanks anyway, one more thing to think about lol. Pete. |

I've supplied and fitted a few Safari Equip ones in the past - and have always been happy with them... and you get the option of having it supplied galvanised (and or powder coated).
They aren't that far from you either. Ian IRB The home of the first modified Keswick Green 90 - and the first 2.4 Puma through both the 200bhp and 550Nm barriers. www.IRBdevelopments.com www.facebook.com/irbdevelopments www.integrated316.com www.facebook.com/integrated316 |

In the UK the two biggest UK producers of swing away wheel carriers are Mantec and Safari Equip.
Some suppliers sell the ones made by these companies as their own or do not state the manufacturer. There are smaller manufacturers and there are also some imported from Eastern Europe. The Mantec and Safari Equipe ones are around the £200 mark. Safari Equipe probably do the widest range of swingaway wheel carriers, pre and post 2002, tailgate, standard finish is powder coat then you can have galv and galv plus powder coating with or without high lift brackets Things to look for in swingaway wheel carrier is grease nipples and length of bracket. Personally I prefer the longer brackets of the Safari Equipe ones over the shorter Mantec ones. Going up in price there are the Nakatanenga (German) and Safari Equipe (UK) Single pivot ones at about £425. Or there is the Alisport (UK) one at about £750. I believe Kaymar ones are still available at the same sort of price. One point to bear in mind is that most swing away wheel carriers take the wheel off centre. Personally we have had one of the Safari Equipe ones on the red 110 for about 10 years without any problems. It has been modified to carry a big radio antenna on. HTH Brendan |

I'm going for the Mantec one as the rear step on the x tech won't allow a re fit of mr old Naka one so it will be for sale soon along with a few other things

Has anybody got any pics of a standard safari equip one fitted? I dont like where the pivots are bolted on the one in lrmike's picture, but that has a jack mount on it. Are the standard ones mounted in the same place as the Mantec ones or are they still on the side like lrmike's?
