United Kingdom 2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Stornoway Grey
Front differential on Puma
I know nothing about diffs really, and they are one of those things that the thought of working on scare me Shocked

I've read in a few places (on this forum) that the early 110 Pumas have the weak 2 pin front diffs and that these are more a case of 'when they fail' rather than 'if they fail'. Is this true and if so is there anyway to work out if my one (110 approaching 40K miles) is suffering?

Or, is it just worth changing as a matter of course.

Thumbs Up

P.S Truck is an early 2008 USW so i'm pretty sure it has the two pin diff at the front.

later Pumas have 4 pin, early 110s had 2 pin front and 4 pin rear. V8 90s ran 4 pin (although only rear i think) Cheers

we seemed to stuggle with them when a 110 was fully loaded going down a steep limit of traction drop, got through a few until a 4 pin was fitted. they were 07/08 models. Cheers

Ashcroft certainly spec a 4 pin diff. I'm going to have a chat with them see what they can offer - I'll post what I come up with.

Hi,

We are out of stock of the 4 pins at the moment, we have 50 in production but you may as well buy the ATB, it's not much more money and you have the added bonus of addition traction being a limited slip :
