jasperooney

After reading fully all of the afore mentioned posts i felt that i had to add the following !

I am interested too in your theoryof air flow ! i fitted a SAFARI SNORKEL to a 200TDI and had to turn it round 180 degrees as it rammed too much air into the intake system / airbox. Surprising too how much rain it draws in facing forwards as it does when driving into rain ! and do not mention the 4 winters i spent in Norway when the stupid thing clogged up with snow !!!!!!!!!

Try that for airflow !!!!!!!!!

The same thing happened to a 300TDI when i fitted it to that and turned that through 180 deg to combat the problem "you would thought i'd have leaernt" by the way when its turned round the wrong wat i think it looks bone as fooook !!! you however will probably disagree.........
I will not comment on the TD5 as i have no experience of this application and skipped a generation as i found it hard to part with my 300.

In my experience and having spent the last 18 years in the Forces and having fitted these to hundreds of DEFENDERS from stealing guttering and clips off buildings and glass pre cleaners off farm machinery in War torn countrys to try and prevent dust and sand entering the intake system forced air induction is the last thing you require !
Sure they look good and the grill looks the part at the top too but the Quality of the MANTEC one is superior and the shape of the head deals with all the reasons i have stated above SNOW & WATER ingress, rammed air / leaking or burst pipes................

And CHEVIOT 4X4's phone surely the ringtone after hearing that request would be BRING!! BRING!!
BRING!! BRING!! ££££££££££££ssssssssss

And i,m not having a go at you either ! i have aired my bit because i can cobble together a breather from the remnants of a farm yard and have knowledge that it works ! of course it will look sh!te ! i accept fully your opinions on SAFARI SNORKELS "You dont happen to work for them do you" because its a bit of a narrow minded approach ! DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN

Now im going to disagree.

Ive ran a safari on my 300 disco for about 4yrs and the v8 90 for 1.

Never has it let water in, once i got clogged snow (but thats because i have an additional filter.

The point of safari is that you can move it round for these reasons.

I think Mantec snorkel is inferior product by far based on my experience (and the safari looks better to boot) Just to add – Safari think about actually submerging the vehicle in water Mike

Bow down Sorry!

Have you got a Safari on yours ?

Whats the point in turning it round ? surely the Mantec is a better idea ? from a point of water in the top ! driving blizzard snow for 4-5 days at a time !

I wasnt so lucky to have had the inginuety to turn mine round it froze solid inside and took ages to defrost !

Each to their own ! DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN

Safari on the disco and the v8, not got round to ordering it for the defender.

The design of the Safari does work to wick out the water (infact ive been really impressed by that element)

Like i said i have a fly screen and thats what allowed the snow to build up

All in the safari is just better in my opinion Mike

Maybe a stupid question, but what should be included in a wading kit?

In other words: How far do you go? Roel

1984 90 2.5 na Diesel - RR V8 (1994-2001)
1997 Camel Trophy Discovery 300TDI (2001-2009)
2005 G4 Discovery III 4.4 V8 (2008-2018) It's gone but it still hurts.

Normal kit would include extensions for the breathers for axles, fuel tank and timing cover. In addition, it might include a wading plug for older vehicles.

According to Mantec, the Puma doesn't need one (although I don't know why it differs in that regard from the Td5 - for which they make a kit). I guess that if you're planning on doing some deep wading then you should extend your breathers regardless of what others say. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS
