I was maybe a little short but a customer asking questions is fine as we are paid to answer them
Customer education is key – the more the customer knows the better placed he is to make an informed purchasing decision. I would rather the customer did not buy than regretting it after purchase because of a lack of information. There is no question the lights are a lot of money and I have to be careful about being too defensive about our products but the headlights do get singled out for the value and being easy to steal when there are many things of much higher value that are equally easy and some even easier to steal that never get mentioned. In addition to that I do not know of any that have been stolen but I am sure when it happens plent of people will talk about it and put down those who have bought them The same applies to stone damage / breaking glass - I know of less than five lamps in three years (this covers sales across Europe) that have been broken by a stone yet the "talk" on the internet by people who do not even own the lamps is enough to drive us to change the lens material from glass to PC because of “perceived” customer demand. It is remarkable that the people with no experience of the product can bear such influence on others who actually wish to buy it however everyone is entitled to thier opinion and that is part of what forums are about - sharing views. We are strong behind our principles of doing a good job and irrespective of the price offering good value for money, which again people criticise the price of the headlamps. but we are actually the cheapest, yet selling a product designed and manufactured in the USA with a four year warranty. The next cheapest LED headlamps are made in the Far East and come with a single year warranty from the manufacturer yet command almost £200 more per set. This in my opinion as an independent dealer makes the JW Speaker 8700’s good value for money. I am sure some will disagree with what I say but it is our principles that have carried us through two recessions and twenty five years of selling premium auto electronics. i will look to see what grill options there are for you |

Thanks for the stats Tim. I have no reservation in purchasing a set and was by no means slating the product or your company, far from it!
It was more the after installation variables that worried me, but as per yesterday's post from you my pessimism has been put to rest. We have a travellers site behind us which has put me more on edge than most regarding thefts and ensuring the protection of any purchase I make. Apologies if this came across as a slating, it was not my intention. I am eager to see what you can find guard wise as my searches have proved unfounded and will just help me sleep at night a little bit better . Thanks for your time. Not at all - my comments were general and in no way directed at you
We are looking at the SVX front end in order to integrate an LED driving light where the halogen item is located so will look at what we can do to protect things in general if possible as there are no current solutions that I am aware of either. |

Agreed whole heartedly Tim. There are lots of good/premium products available to buy and lots of less good/inferior/rip offs out there. Explaining the whys/how to etc to people can be time consuming but it is important for customer education so that the customer can get the best out of whatever the equipment is. There is lots of expensive bolt ons available to Defender owners. After having a roof rack and rooftent stolen recently (only 4 are known to be stolen in the last 10 years) whilst not a common every day ocurrance I would suggest people take sensible precautions, be it a blob of weld on a winch bolt, security nuts on racks etc. However it is important not too get too paranoid about things and enjoy your Defender ownership
The only light glass I know of being broken is a roof mounted IPF light on our red 110. However that was out in Australia after being 'machine gunned' with pebbles from a road train. Yes glass can be broken but you are more likely to have a broken windscreen then a broken headlight (bigger area) All you need is a stone/debris to be thrown up by a passing car. So why don't we go down the polycarb route for windscreens? (Yes I do understand some of the reasons why not ) Speaker LED Headlights are a premium product. Guess what lights we will be putting on Barbara's 90??? Quality is never an accident. It is always the result of intelligent effort. John Ruskin, English writer and critic, 1819–1900 Brendan |
