Strange clutch symptoms
Hi everyone,

firstly, sorry for one of my first posts shamelessly seeking advice/knowledge but here goes...

My 02 110 td5 has has done something really strange twice now. I gave it the beans in 1st today, pulling away from a junction into moving traffic. I took the revs high and then tried to select 2nd. Nothing happened, no grinding etc...it just physically would not go in to gear, nor would it go into any gear. 3rd, 4th 5th...nothing. By this time the engine revs had slowed and i had come to a complete halt. I raised and lowered the clutch a few times and tried again...nothing...So for some thinking time i left it in neutral and raised the clutch. There was nothing for a second then it made a slight whirring noise. I put the clutch down and tried again. It went straight in to 1st. So i set off. First change into 2nd was notchy and awkward but after that everything was perfect again. It's been fine ever since

Any ideas

Thanks in advance

Jim

I would start with a gearbox oil change. And I would swap to fully synthetic.

Thanks andy.

I have been meaning to order some Difflock oil ever since I bought the car but couldn't justify the expense until now. Hopefully it might make things a little better.

Are there any other suggestions? I am thinking it is not the clutch itself because it won't even crunch in to gear. It just stays stuck in neutral although the gear stick will move left and right?

Hi if you try and put it in gear (not forcing it in) will in crunch into gear any gear if so looks like it could be a sticking synchro as mentioned I would try some synthetic oil.
