I joined the forum last April because I thought everything was wrong with my new 2.4 110.
Most things weren't really wrong and those that were have been/are being sorted out. It's only as up as my children so I may as well love it too p.s. I know it will gradually fall apart but then again so will I... at least it can be fixed Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Do it , I went from a BMW 530d m sport 2009 to a def 90 x-tech and yep I have not yet looked back once.
They are harder to drive and louder and cold in the mornings and slower but the BMW never put the smile I have on my face every morning now , that could just be because my face is frozen lol |

Fully aware of that Bpman...must have had a dozen 90's and 110's, series 3's, discos, series ones.....fully got the bug although it is partially cured by my lovely 80 inch 1952.
Problem as I see it is they (new builds) are actually getting worse despite what the salesmen say. Anyone disagree ? I don't mind minor niggles that can be fixed once and for all relatively quickly, but reoccurring major mechanicals I can't live with and don't have time for.. Should I buy an ex demo 90 with 2k on the clock that I've seen or walk away, stick with my series one and wait for the next generation defender which I'm sure will be well built ? Yep go for it, got a 90 xs 2.2 this year it really is unlike any other car.
Don't get me wrong they have theirs faults, choppy ride over less than perfect roads, noisy, dashboard ergonomics from the 70's but these all fade into the background. Once you test drive once you will know if its for you or not. Good luck Andy |

I think you'll find the vast majority of owners don't have major problems. Most people join forums because they want help, or are fanatics that do extreme things with their vehicles, or proudly work their vehicles into the ground. Things like leaky windows and rusting bezels are to be expected (weren't they always?) but if you want improvements like a quiet, powerful, more comfortable vehicle with gears that aren't unpleasant you have to take your chances on getting one of "standard" quality (which most probably are). I also belong to an Audi and VW forum. if you formed an opinion on reliability from the posts on those, you would certainly never consider buying any of those cars Tell someone you love them today because life is short. I have. My 110 XS is used as a daily drive and offroad for work / shooting at weekends. It needs to perform. No problems other than door alignment being slightly off which will be repaired when in for service.
I agree with previous comments. I had a few niggles with my audis and major issues with my £70k X5. The Defenders aren't that bad and more fun! |

You're probably better qualified to answer that question than most of us , your 130 sounded like a perfect family car despite the clutch(s) being replaced. That might have been something to do with the JE tune though? Maybe the components on the landrover needed to be uprated to cope with all that extra power - just a thought. How did you rate your 90 puma? If you've had bad experiences with the last three pumas then probably best to let the head rule on this one and get a nice hilux. As you and others have previously posted, you generally hear the problems on forums (that's one of the good things of forums) and lot of other makes have niggles, you just have to decide whether the niggles were faults/character that you can live with or get fixed. Or let the heart rule and make this number 4, you know you want to.
