FYI bleeding fuel system
I ran dry after installing a britpart filter which was sucking air.

(before you start telling me how stupid it was, i had no choice, OEM was out of stock)

Really, how difficult can it be to copy something and make it to the same spec??? that is not even R&D.

Anyway, car died after 10 minutes of running, happily still at the parking place.

2 hours and multiple attempts later we put back the old OEM filter and immediately all was solved. Rolling Eyes

Well the good news is that taking air out of the system is not all that problematic and can be done without the special LR tool. Just need a rag, a compressor and an empty bottle to catch fuel at the engine side.

Pressurize the tank and let flow the diesel at the fuelrail (unplug the quick-connect at the front and top of the engine, next to the fuelrail, not the ones hidden lower down at the middle of the fuel rail) into the bottle, about 1 liter and no more air came out.

Just FYI in case you need a bush repair. (oh and with a 12VDC compressor it might be necessary to block your tank vent pipe)

Ah your not the only one to have had problems with brit part fuel fitlers

Serviced a mates Puma yesterday.

5 mins after he took it he was at the side of the road with a dead engine Embarassed

I had to tow him to saftey, in the end I had to put the old filter back on & suck diesel up using my oil extractor

All at the side of the road

I wont use brit part again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chris

Great tip, but how do you pressurise the tank?

If the tank is above 3/4 full just jack the rear end up 400mm and it will fill the filter for you

hi,
if it work as you say, interesting !
the other idea to put pressure at the tank is great also but will be afraid with the pressure a tank

anyway, in which state will be all the little plastic connections in some years when we will use the official tool ?

also for the one who make offroad, what about the risk to put dird when using the official kit ?

bit late to answer the question

pressurizing the tank we do by "sealing" the filler opening with the rag wrapped around the air pistol. This allows for enough leaking that the pressure is absolutely not dangerous for the tank/fuel lines.

With a 12Vdc compressor which has only little flow compared to a normal one i think better sealing and even closing the breather pipe will be necessary to have some effect.

I did not.

Just pulled the pipe off the fuel rail & sucked the fuel up to there.

Cranked it round a few times & it went.

May have been luck but it worked Very Happy Chris

On a TD5 turn ignition on but do not start engine, depress and release accelerator 4 or 5 times until MIL flashes, fuel system goes into auto purge until engine is started. 2007 TD5 90 Hard Top

No pump in the tank on a 2.4 but there is on the 2.2 but it needs a different sequence and tooling for it to prime
