I was being slightly tongue in cheek Jeremy but thank you for your most useful clarification.

keith,
are you suggesting you've bought a roll of carpet and stuck some of it to the doors too ? |

Well I spec'd the optional (and quite expensive) 1st and 2nd row rubber mats as I thought I was getting the standard carpets with my XS.
It would appear that my MY13 will come with rubber trim so I've got rubber over rubber! Can't say I'm too bothered as what most car manufacturers call carpet is really a nasty cheap product and ripping it out of a Defender to dry it out will do nothing for its longevity. Rubber will last longer and wear better. Might just put some old newspapers underneath for soaking up the water and that little bit of lofted "give" that makes it more comfortable underfoot and gives a luxury vibe Is there any press release detailing all the MY13 changes over the MY12? The other big difference for me was the deletion of the side windows in the rear canopy of the dcpu - I'm not sure I like that but will have to wait and see it in the flesh. Might have to buy an old canopy and swap it over... |

Hi all
Just thought I would give you an update I know most think that carpets are poor and not needed. But this is a point of principle as the motors were ordered based on the info received and at no time was we advised for shown any new spec for the my 13 model. Neither have we been ask which options we would like on the new my13 (premium seats & coloured head lining) from what I believe are available ? even thou the land rover web site still only shows photos and spec’s based on the my12 model. After a week or so of waiting for the dealership to talk amongst themselves and so called contacted land rover . They have decided not to honour and supply / install carpets as we have received what we have ordered , but did advise the cost installing new fitted carpets would be £1270 fitted per vehicle and I think that may be plus vat . However they did offer to supply new foot well mats FOC when they come out in December but they don’t know what they look like or how they fit. It is pointless running down the dealership. But their attitude towards a defender is very poor . I think the words were “if we wanted spec we should by a range rover or discovery ” I did point out to him that we actually own some of them as well . but it feels like they view defender owners as range rover and discovery wanabies or second rate customers . which I think is a terrible attitude . They will not be on our approved list for our purchases next year. Also I was advised from the dealer that the sales man who dealt with the original order is no longer with them as he was not very good at his job. So they don’t even want to take responsibility for their own staff failings either. Anyway, as our contract is with the lease company and not the dealer. The poor chap at the lease company will now have to deal with all the flack, as they only crunch the numbers and really on the dealers to support them with the correct information and advice ,which clearly is not the case in this instance. Good news we like the motors (apart from no carpets)and we have added some bling. We will let you know what we do with them over the next few months, as we tailor the motors to our own tastes which some of you may like or may not, plus may find useful for your own motors. sorry to bore you with this sarga Regards Ray 2023 110 Xs commercial D250 2005 D3 HSE (green lane toy) 1983 westwood gazelle 11HP still going strong |

Ray, I feel your pain and what ever opinions people have the fact remains that if you ordered a car with carpets that's what you should get.
I had a look at the 13MY this week and thought myself it looked a bit basic without carpet. A lot of the time the dealer doesn't have all the info and the manufacturer changes spec's at whim and isn't always the best at communicating this. (not updating the website is a good example) As it's a leasecar purchase the dealer will have very little margin could be just a couple of hundred pounds to take order, PDi, valet and handover. Just another unit towards target, usually they get an order, told what price by the lease company as LR have agreed a fleet price centrally and dealer just sticks it on the system Problem is Dealer won't have much room to move, won't see why they should take the hit. LR won't care and the lease company just run numbers. Meanwhile your sat with a big issue with something that you've looked forward to and will be your pride and joy. I fear the problem is LR and maybe customer services is the way to go? They come good if pushed for long enough I have found but we had to be relentless with them. |

4x4man make sure you're tailoring is reversible as the motors not yours

It's ok ken
We have I think a type of lease purchase where we have to sell at the end of the agreement We sell them within the group and offer them to the staff at cost or just keep them on annual pepper corn lease payments to to improve right down when they are sold later. We receive aprox 97% of the sale back anyway as There is no ballon payment . It's not a bad deal and works for us tax wise . Plus we do recive generous fleet discounts which helps against the cost of finance . 100% tax relief claim the vat back plus low company car tax due to being commercial. All we have to do is fit heavy duty springs to meet payload levels tax man insist on for full commercial relief . Which land rover can do as an option if you ask or after market works anyway I think we got 12% off the motors = 10% off the dealer and an additional 2% direct from land rover fleet discount department But no matter what we paid we still expect what we believed we have ordered Regards Ray 2023 110 Xs commercial D250 2005 D3 HSE (green lane toy) 1983 westwood gazelle 11HP still going strong Last edited by 4x4man on 6th Nov 2012 9:06pm. When my X Tech arrived I was also upset that there were no carpets!
If you look at the LR website it shows the carpets on their pics on the X Tech! Cutting a long story short, LR agreed to supply and fit carpets in the passenger area of the car but would not cover the load area. It cost me about £300 to have the load area carpeted as well, and since then I have also had a full Noisekiller kit fitted. It is now as it should have been when delivered! |
