up date
hi all the dealership are looking into the matter and we feel they may be doing the honourable thing which sound good at the moment. fundament issue is that we order the vehicle though a lease company in June and was upgraded to the MY 13 model due to land rover not taking any more orders for the older model , but was never told of any changes or options which were available . plus to top it off the land rovers web site still only display’s my 12 photos and spec's. it looks like a bit of a communication issue between the sales chap at land rover and the lease company. judging by the way the way they are handling the matter i think we will be defiantly using this dealership for our next vehicles next year as the we want a D4's plus pre order the new defender it really does make a change to hear a dealership making the effort to listen and trying to deal with your issue, as the ones we have used in the past we ended going legal hopefully fingered crossed 2023 110 Xs commercial D250 2005 D3 HSE (green lane toy) 1983 westwood gazelle 11HP still going strong |

Seems the forum is full of people not suited to Defender ownership today...
Seriously, if you get THAT worked up about carpets that you rant about it on a forum, you probably bought the wrong vehicle. Carpets don't belong in a Defender, Land Rover obviously finally realised it and did what every sensible Defender owner had already done and thrown them in the bin. Can I suggest that we have an official "MTFU" emoticon ? http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

Defender's have moved on I'm afraid Carpets to some are important we can’t say you’re not suited to a Defender that’s judgemental just because they want carpets , The Defender is classless some want more than others that’s why it’s a great motor
My X Tech came without its a PITA but no biggy I just ordered a Rear Carpet set (More for sound deadening) the first drive really was Defner ![]() |

Very funny Dave
I have had land rover all my life and done virtually every conceivable off road and on road use this these vehicles can do / should not . And yes when not pimped up and just used at the tool they should be throw the carpets away I have joined this forum to use it as what a forum is meant for 1/ seek advise Which I have done, as we have received a motor not as we was originally shown . The Information I received from a few member was great . The my13 spec was a great help as we had never been shown or advised about it prior. One member even offer to check our vin number to help with spec. Many thanks to all that helped 2/ air our opinions Which I have done and said what we may do . But at the end of the day It is nothing to do with this Specific car. We have purchased goods and not received what we ordered 3/ share our experiences This in my opinion the main use of a forum . As we can talk about the good & bad points of products or services . This will help other forum members to assist them in Deciding on purchases or alterations for their motors In this case I have said we have spoke to the dealership and actually praised them for there conduct so far. I feel this is a very important point, as there are certain land rover franchises I will not touch with a barge pole due to the very very poor after sale support. So I'm a afraid I will not shut up ![]() 2005 D3 HSE (green lane toy) 1983 westwood gazelle 11HP still going strong |

Don't think the original post was in any way whining on about it or the owners suitability as a Defender driver, rather it was stating that no carpets came when they were advertised, and what out views are.
If it was stated no carpets, just rubber mats, then that might have been an even better choice for the buyer, as they could then have decided whether carpets would have been suitable for his use or not. I'd agree that probably most people who have carpets then buy rubber mats to cover them but that's not the point is it. If the spec stated 4.2 v8 motor and auto box with a nitrocharge go faster button and it turned up with a 2.2 lorry engine then I think any sane person might question that on a forum, whether the lorry engine would suit better or not - same thing Much like the XS spec of 1011 stated leather gear knob, but none arrived and I don't think anyone else got one? (not you Matt!) I liked the idea of carpets as I was swapping over from a d3 with all the bells and whistles, although I was quite happy that my old 90 had no carpets (except on the gearbox and seat boxes). I fitted soundproof mats and carpet where I wanted it. Judging by the number of people on forums moaning about their carpets getting wet ( due to leaks mainly, rather than working or off-roading) then it suggests carpets are definitely NOT suited to Defenders. Until Land Rover sort out the leaks (which they cannot do because of the way a Defender is constructed) then carpets will remain unsuitable, despite what some types of customers may feel is bettet for their own needs and wants. I can quite understand why a customer may want to complain about not getting exactly what they ordered but in this case I would say getting rubber mats rather than carpets was a bonus! Better for the longevity of the vehicle, less musty smells and less mould and mildew spores floating around.... ![]() ![]() Yorkshire Off Road Club - http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net |

I prefer the rubber vinly lining in the X-tech as it's easily cleaned, but as Ken says nothing in the back at all. You want carpets you should get carpets specially when paying premium money, I hope the dealer sorts it for you. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

Carpets should come as a little 'gift' in any new car. It's expected from the buyer and it's annoying when you don't get them.
In a Defender the choice should be rubber or carpet but one set either way should be standard. |

Thud - quick check around the Internet reveals (although not surprisingly to me, given the high price of rubber atm) that a set of rubber mats/sing LR moulded front mat is much, much more expensive than the carpet alternative. Same goes for the genuine Land Rover rear load mat - an expensive bit of kit!
So really, rubber would be the higher spec and a more valuable 'gift' than carpet from the dealer. - carpet being a bit of a cheap option! ![]() I agree though - the options do appear to be a bit inconsistent , year to year, so any buyer should always ask lots of questions and then get a written confirmation of the chosen spec. Not that I've even been in a position to (or even want to) buy a brand new Land Rover. We prefer to buy second hand (let someone else take the first heavy depreciation whack) and then do our own specs by way of adding and modding bits. That is really where the Land Rover becomes the 'Everyman' car.... Love it! ![]() Yorkshire Off Road Club - http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net |

Of course they have their own cost. So build it in to the price of the car and at least kid the man spending a large chunk of hishard earned that his custom is appreciated and rewarded.

Thinking about it, when I used to have my CBR600 and KLR250 bikes, they didn't have ashtrays... maybe I should have shouted at Honda and Kawazaki?
![]() ![]() ![]() Oh hang on.... it didn't say they'd have ashtrays in the advertisment for them. Why moan that you didn't get flowers.... that's what florists are for, not car dealers. ![]() |

He spent £60k plus and didn't get a set of mats. Maybe they should have poked him in the eyes and told him to naff off with their cars and be grateful.
For my £60k I'd expect a night with the dealers daughter at the very least. |

No, he didn't get fitted carpets. A very different thing and one which it sounds like is being dealt with to his satisfaction. |
