Driving Light Wiring Loom
I've got some Cibie Oscar+ lamps to mount on my A-Bar and need to wire them up safely.

A search on the site throws up a load of different solutions. At the minute they've got offroad 150W bulbs in, so my question is - is the Genuine kit beefy enough for this current draw or do I need to build my own wiring kit?

I'd like to keep things looking as neat as possible and a look under the bonnet doesn't exactly offer a load of options to mount relays or tap into wiring.

Oh yes and £90 odd seems a bit steep for a few wires from the dealer.

Cheers

The thing to remember is Watts = volts x amps

Therefore amps = watts/volts

And volts = watts/amps

So standard lamps would be 55w so at 12 volts thats 4.58 amps for a single light (55/12 = 4.58 ).

A 150w bulb would potentially draw 12.5 amps (150/12 = 12.5) so I'd go down the route of customised wiring.

Wire a suitable cable to take those amps from battery (via suitable fuse) to switched pole on relay, then from the opposite switched pole to the lamp. You will also need an earth wire from the lamp to a suitable earting point.

Then a wire from highbeam wire (need not be so beefy as it only takes "standard" current) to switch, from switch to relay then from relay to earth.

Here's a rough sketch of the wiring:

i've seen those and they are charging a lot for a bit of wire and terminals. i'm looking for the proper kit, switch, loom - -plug and play kit that comes with the full light kit.

Correcto! part # STC8813AA £54.25 (it's listed under German spec front spots, and probably a couple more listings too, but that's the first one I found) Thumbs Up

Yep, TD5 loom in mine,,

Power and earth (via relay and fuse) out from the battery box, ran underneath and up the bulkhead, branch off into cab, to a Gen dash switch, and another over to the dash to pick up the headlamp beam wire (Blue/white from memory)
The other branch runs forwards to the lamps,,

I made my own - the main difference on the TD5 to puma is the recommended path for the wires Mike

but does that kit come with the switch and correct plugs, STC8813AA was pre Td5 Defender & Discovery Tdi. A mechanic at the dealer said the wiring kit for the TD5 is completly different to the wiring kit that is now fitted on the puma.
MSE - did you mange to wire in the proper dash switch?

Yes and with the correct connector, im not a fan of bodged on stuff

As for wiring kit - there were some minor changes - but nothing major in the TD5 to Puma Mike
