Hi guys,
I have a Sept 2007 90 CHT and would like to up-grade the windscreed to the heated version. Is this straightforward - buy windscreen and wire in a switch - or more complicated than that? Anyone else done it? Any views/comments would be more than appreciated. Thanks Nick R |

the wiring should be there, its on a timer so you would need switch, timer relay.

Hi Lornick,
When I purchased my 57 reg Puma CSW I asked the dealer about having a heated windscreen installed. He said that it was a simple job and that I would only have to buy a switch and windscreen of course as the wiring loom was already installed. Its a must add on for me when I manage to get the wonga. using my glass insurance after a stone taken in highway I installed the heated front screen.
IF YOUR CAR HAVEN'T HEATED SCREEN FROM LR AT THE ORIGIN, YOUR CAR IS WITHOUT THE NECESSARY WIRES!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() You have two way to follow for a good installation.... ..........remember that the heated screen is a big current charge (drain 290W/12V=24 A and more). so you make the circuit independent from the acc. key you can discharge the battery in few hours!!! 1. you build a new wiring kit, with new fuse(s), a timer, relays and more with the attention to make all circuit under the "I" acc. key position (see upper row) . 2. you build the wiring loom like the Land Rover wiring diagram. I take the 2nd way but you must know that, if you want the LR loom basics, there is a lot of "fine" work...... first you need a signal form the dash board, the "Engine RUN" signal, able to switch on the heated screen ONLY with the engine running, (but the cable doesn't exist on the original loom if your car, like mine was build without heated screen installed from the origin). second you need a new wire (15A fused) from the ignition key but it's simple. Third if you put the relay and the timer (this last one bought original from LR) under the passenger seat (mine is LHD) you must place the wiring loom to under bonnet and enter into the car, crossing the gearbox housing bell (like the original wiring loom) last but not the least you must use the GROUND point like LR (one from the gearbox) and one from the grounds junction box under the bonnet near (rear) the cooling water expansion box. if someone wants, I can make a copy of my "P&I" schemes, ask to daniele.gardellin@me.com The most difficult jobs are look for a right pin for add it into the dashboard connector for pick up the "engine RUN" signal......... Thanks guys,
As usual, seems to be mixed messages from our respective Land Rover dealers......... Still, it's something I want to do, so I'll get myself organised and let you know how I get on. Cheers, |

ah!
I'm forgetting...... it's no so simple to look for the "Heated front screen" wiring loom side connector.... it is necessary to search an a rover car on a car cemetery or buy one (and modify a little plastic guide with a cutter) I bought it here http://shop.dingocroft.co.uk/acatalog/Electrical_Miscellany.html Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition ![]() IID Pro MV License |

Cheapest way:
Tap your screen with hammer until crack! Ring Insurance and claim for screen (£25 excess NFU) Autoglass will ask you which defender screen you want as there are several on the system for the PUMAs Tell them heated version. Arrange Fitting!! Take to independent auto electrician and explain scenario. Job done £40 + £25 excess Still waiting for FROST to try out! ![]() |

Once the wife has made your breakfast;
Send her out to start the defender and spray the windscreen with de-icer, tell her to stay there until your seats warm. Finish breakfast, kiss wife good bye sorted ![]() 110 HCPU Tipper |

Could front screen be wired to same switch as rear screen?
If not, why not? ![]() ![]() |

NO! for two reasons: 1. Heated front screen need 270W-290W (rear screen only 75W) so you need the control that the front screen can be defrosted ONLY if the engine is running (the engine not only the key) 2. for the same reasons the Front screen ECU switch off screen after 7 - 8 min. (rear screen is always on until you switch off it or switch off the engine) Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition ![]() IID Pro MV License Last edited by dgardel on 2nd Dec 2009 12:08pm.
