Ok, so it is a perennial bugbear for us all I am sure, but having been with Admiral for a number of years (Landy plus an Audi & a Chrysler Voyager), the renewal quote seemed a bit high.

They knocked a wee bit off on the phone.

So went to Direct Line (who I have always found to be very high)...

Now, maybe it is because they have just been sold off, but saved 26% overall using Direct Line.

Cannot remember last time I paid less than £300 to insure any car. 2001 TD5 110 DCPU in Bonatti Grey

Thanks for the info, my renewal note arrived today and while it's not mad (£520) it would be nice if it was lower. I'll check them out tomorrow.

My renewal from NFU in may was £630 so decided to get a quote from direct line as Mrs Sparts is with them for her Rav4.To say i was pleasantly surprised is an understatement they came back with £280 for the same cover but without breakdown/recovery which was easily sorted.Sorry to leave NFU as found them great but could,nt justify £630 to insure a defender ! 2005 Td5 90 XS

That is cheap for the NFU!!

Try £765!

Not for a Jag, Ferrari or even a Defender.

Try a 2000 Disco2 TD5 with 6+ years NCD. Value of D2? Try £2.5k

Have had a claim on a non motor policy with the NFU so they have been hiking their premiums. Try talking to them about premiums Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Are they trying to tell me something?

The renewal of £630 was one thing but two years earlier had only paid them £380 for the same cover on the same vehicle thats quite some rise ! Vote with your feet Brendan and go elsewhere until they come back to planet earth. 2005 Td5 90 XS

So far that insurance company has lost over £3,000 of annual premiums. We saved £600. They will lose a few more policies worth a few £k!

I have got a questionnaire from them today. One of the questions was would I recommend that company to other people Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Enough said??

If you do under 3k per annum, don't run it as a main car and can garage it, try Academy. I was about £250 including breakdown cover and all mods declared!

Bear in mind that Direct Line are cheap for a reason... Had my 4 doors stolen 5 weeks ago and Direct Line denied that I had hire car cover (I did have this cover and they eventually said I'd get £100 compensation for their error, which I've still not received.). Direct Line were happy for my Defender (without any doors remember...) to be moved uncovered on a flatbed truck in torrential rain (said they'd repair the water damage), so I had to rig something up with a tarp. Oh and their recommended repairers still haven't been able to put the doors on yet.

Still, they were cheap.

Such a difference between a mainline cheap insurance deal and a specialist who actually stands your motor and hobby and insures it accordingly...

I would personally far rather insure mine with a Frank Pickles, NFU, Academy etc than one of the big guys. Some of them actually understand our choice of motor and you can have as sensible conversation if and when it does go wrong. Just my two pennies worth though...

A small surprise today - docs came in for all three cars - first 2 asking for proof of no claims (pretty standard), but Landy policy asking for both proof of no claims & proof of Thatcham alarm & tracker fitted...

Checked back to proposal forms & small print I completed - no mention of this being conditional.

However, given that saving between new & old insurance is approx cost of tracker purchase & install, and that I was thinking about doing it anyway - just given me a kick up the backside to get my act together.

SO, whilst a "discussion" might be about to happen regarding the alarm, the tracker is getting done this week. 2001 TD5 110 DCPU in Bonatti Grey

I am paying £225 for supply & install, then I get to choose annual or "lifetime" contract - but various options more & less expensive available, running from under £200 way up to around £800, depending on the system. 2001 TD5 110 DCPU in Bonatti Grey
