2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Santorini Black

Haven't gotten round to it yet. Been too wet to consider. Also had to order a few bits for the install.

I got a bullet CCD camera and 5" screen from http://shop.reversingcamerasuk.com/
There are cheaper kits available on ebay though.
I've also got all the other bits I need:
1) Cable conduit
2) Cable ties
3) Switch for dash (I'm going to have it switched rather than hooked into the reversing light)

After all the bad weather we've had, I finally got round to installing my reversing camera (on a gloriously sunny afternoon)

Bullet camera in existing hole in cross member
Cable routed via chassis (in conduit) to under driver seat and into car that way
Installed a switch in the blank (top row, on left)
Took power and earth from the "cigar lighter"

Screen is removable. May glue a small clamp to the dash.

Works a treat and now don't have to use the tow bar as reversing sensor......

H'mm, IIRC it is just the other way round, i.e. red = ignition live, yellow (or orange) = permanent live (for radio memory). Cheers, Vincent

I actually tapped in using scotch locks - not ideal but I wanted the set-up to work before I set about soldering.
Original loom not damaged in any way.
Also, took a connection from another switch for the "console illumination"

According to this - seems like White/orange is ignition live and Purple/Brown is permanent live

just an idea:

I used the spare switch on the dash (LR uses it for SVX-Fog lights or whatever I think) to switch on the reversing camera. I took a Discovery-2 SLC-Switch, because I could easily get one, it will stay in the "on"-position if pressed, but it has red backlight at night. I still used it because it works with the connector that also is used for the elect.windscreen-switch which I conincidentally had too. On the plus-side the SLC-Switch has a symbol that somehow makes sense. I used a sharp blade to scratch away some of the grey switch´s surface to alter the symbol. In case you want a different backlight, you have to take another switch and could use the SLC- front knob with it. All interchangeable.

Don´t want to bother you with the stories of camera installations.

Pics as promised....

1) Bullet camera installed in existing hole in cross member ( used part of a bicycle inner tube to insulate camera from cross member (bi-metal corrosion and all that)

2) Cable routed along chassis in conduit and secured using cable ties

3) Cable enters vehicle under drivers seat

4) Carefully routed under carpet to dash and connected to switch - used a seat heating switch (cheap at £5 but need to change the icon - any ideas?)

5) Cable not very tidy when screen in use - need to think of a more elegant solution but I need a removable screen to prevent theft

6) Works - bright sunlight so photo of screen doesn't do it justice - image is really clear

I'd leave the switch as it is, noone needs to know its not actually a heated seat switch

Not my highest priority right not but would like to change the icon on the switch - won't have to replace the entire switch - I think the front bits can be replaced

landybehr I tried to google Discovery-2 SLC-Switch without much luck - what is SLC?
