If it's waxoyled leave well alone. If not steam clean then waxoyl or better still get it done properly.

go for it steve atleast you can see once its dry what rust there is to tackle if any, then treat the rust spray it up and waxoil it

Mal - It's not got anything at the moment so all clear on that front.
Killer - Seen the pictures well done.
Just thought I'd ask as it seems a better way of doing it. Presides the fact I don't have one but I don't like the idea of a jet washer just because of the power and the fact the water will get every where. I think that'd be a way of gaining more future rust simply by the pressure pitting any little chip or what ever (you know what I mean) All I'd want to do is remove all the grime and dirt and oil ect back to the chassis so you can see what your doing. And as killer say's sort out any rust if need be but I don't think that'll be any issue anyway. I could be wrong but would I be right in thinking the chassis is painted from new so if that is the case a pressure washer would likely take most or all of the paint off and then the BIG rust issues would appear from then on.. the chassi is painted from new but the paint is really crappy, it wont flake off but it fades very quickly. pressure wash it, rust proof it and if you can aerosol the chassi with satin black spray cans then wax oil it and it should last for a very long time

Your chassis is rusting from the inside out, you need to jet wash inside the rails, leave to dry, then waxoyl inside them. Once the inside is done, then think about doing the outside.

Mo Murphy - Thanks for the offer just a bit far I think as you've probably guessed.
Not commonly used I know but I've had my eye on this for a while: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140719134391 Interested to know what the finish would be like.. Only downside is it wouldn't be no good for inside the chassis. Talking of rattle cans / spray cans whilst having the steam cleaner out I've often wondered if painting the hubs or at least the brake calipers black would be a good idea too. as someone else said the insde of the chassis is where to start and the best bet is chassis wax. On the outside you are spoilt for choice and it depends on the finish you want, as for the calipers you dont need a very high temperature paint and Ive used hammerite
