As you said there are lots of different LED lights on ebay.

A few pointers for you to consider especially if you are considering buying from ebay!

Most of the LED work lights on ebay quote power consumed in WATTS, however the figure you are interested in is LUMENS.

I do note that one of the ebay lights actually quotes a LUMIN figure!

The figure which you are interested in is the effective lumens rather then raw lumens

Also some of the lights quote a Ingress Protection figure. However the actual IP figure quoted can change within a single ad!

For a decent work light you need a spread of light so a 40-60 degree pattern would be good.

Effective Light output of 900 lumens would be good. If much higher figure then it could be blinding if you look at it.

I haven't bought one yet, but I quite fancy THIS ONE, mainly because it shows some pics of the light output. Knowing the figures is all well and good but there's no substitute for actually seeing it. Pictures on the internet probably aren't fully representative, but they're a reasonable guide in lieu of anything else. Darren

A few comments I forgot!

Budget?

If sub £30 or £50 then it will be probably have to be one of the multitude on ebay.

Are you concerned about country of manufacture/assembly? Far East? States? UK?

Interested in product support/back up/accessories? If yes then that might exclude most of the ebay ones.

For a work light you want light spread rather then spot light. Good light output rather then megalight.

High level rather then eyelevel!

Ability to swivel is good.

Ingress Protection? OK two digits typically first digit is 6 which is basically dust proof. Second digit is a 'measure' of proof against water ingress. 7 or 8 are the figures you should be considering.

Talking in general terms whatever the IP figure is I would suggest that the cable entry to the lamp is pointing downwards. So

So instead of turning a light unit upside consider a light which can be suspended from the top if that is a consideration.

I know that a non Far Eastern manufacturer has a new work light coming out shortly and I am looking forward to that one!

Brendan

PS When I see the cost of the Chinese lights and the price they go for on ebay I am almost tempted to buy them. But.........
