What about a Defendoor?

I was thinking of purchasing one of those, but only as a second-best solution. They don't look too good and I heard they are getting stolen quite often

Stolen.....you serious?
Mine has been on my Defender for 6 months now and haven't been knicked yet, EVEN IN AFRICA Really do not look bad and you can customize as you please. Is the problem the water/snow/ice that "blocks" the cap or is more due to the temprature below freez point? If it is due to temps I do not think it will help but if it is due to water/ice ingress I am sure it will help somewhat? |

Thanks for the advise mates!
There is a nice upgrade-kit available, but because of my limited technical abilities I was looking for a simple cap-replacement with an adequate sealed lock that prevents diffusing the moisture or dust to the inside, so the lock could not be blocked anymore. Maybe anyone found a cap from another car-manufacturer to fit the puma!? http://shop.ex-tec.de/product_info.php?products_id=184 |

Your more likely to leave a Defendoor behind than have it nicked. Guess how I know. My excuse was I was being rushed at the pumps. All he same even if you do loose one they cost very little indeed to replace. Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes.

Been caught out once before, arrived at a service station early one Saturday morning on the way to some green lanes in Wales. Nearly out of fuel, couldn't get the fuel cap off. Spent the next 15 minutes anxiously battering the lock with a hammer and screwdriver ! Eventually got it off and was able to reuse but not lock.
Lesson learnt keep well oiled or cover the lock on the cap 2007 TD5 90 Hard Top |

That' exact what happened to me, only the second time it took more than half an hour hammering onto this piece while screaming at it until it opend, must have been quite strange for the other people at the gas station. At that point I already had hands what felt like having second-degree frostbites. And I really had put a lot of oil in it after the first lock-desaster, therefore there must be another strategy for this years winter!

A tip I was given Is in addition to the defender door put an old oily rag on top of the filler cap this helps to prevent moister getting into the cap and freezing.
