Handbrake Light - Not Going Out
Sometimes (not all the time) when I take my hand brake off the light stays on for 10-20 seconds whilst driving then goes out.

The hand brake is deffo down, is deffo slackened off as lowered and nothing appears to be catching the discs.

It all started when I did a few easy but very muddy lanes and got my chasis pretty muddy at the weekend.

What could be up here chaps?

Are we talking every time you take the hand brake off? Or only the first time after starting?

The handbrake light doesn't link to the brakes at all- there is a a switch on the back off the handbrake lever which detects the position of the lever- maybe it needs cleaning/ adjusting.

Most likely worn out pads on the rear brakes Wink
Check the brake oil level, this will be low then.
Will only get worse. Peter,

My handbrake light flickers on and off almost constantly, is just the switch/sensor is a bit Censored and I either need to give it a clean or replace. Nothing to worry about as far as I'm concerned as its had a service since and friend with a diagnostic reader go into it with no questions being asked as its still 'intermittent'. Very Happy ===================================

It's only just been 2nd serviced (24k miles). No report of pads needing replacement.

Faulty switch would make sense. If this persists, I'll drop into the stealers.

But it wouldn't come on when the hand brake applied and then go off after a little driving- it would come on when the brake pedal is applied as this is when the fluid is in the system and not in the reservoir- opposed to the hand brake which doesn't use the hydraulic brake system.

Sounds like a sticking switch on the hand brake lever (Just need to remove gaiter to check it.

Sorry Glyn, but if the brake oil level is low the switch will detect this, irrespective if you press the brake pedal or not. Peter,

But if the level is low enough the light will stay on all the time irrespective of the handbrake where's the OP states that the light goes out after a little driving.
