No power on start up
My Defender has always had an occasional problem.
It starts OK but stalls on take-off due to complete lack of power.
Running for a couple of minutes usually clears this or driving with lots of revs makes it suddenly burst into proper power.
Now happens more often than not even when warmed up.
Anyone got an idea what it can be? Seems like an ECU fault but no problems reported.

Disconnect the MAF sensor it's clipped into the air box with the pipe running to the turbo and try then if its ok get a genuine one to replace it

MAF would be the first thing I would check too. Worth taking it off and cleaning it with electrical contact cleaner anyway..

Hope it is not start of the problem I am getting fixed at the moment Shocked

Symptoms

Starts first time, blue/grey/white smoke after a number of seconds and feels like it is running on 3 or 4 cylinders.
Once clear it is fine. Oil/water levels etc all OK.

Jobs done.

New genuine MAF - helped a bit.
Cleaned the MAP sensor - helped a bit.
Injector seals replaced - they were shot (see picture in my post if it is not broken fix it !) - can't tell if it helped as I have not had the vehicle back because of ....

Turbo shot Shocked Not spooling up correctly and allowing a build up of oil/diesel that is then suddenly blasted into the engine causing smoke etc. Once cleared it was fine.
Not seen the old turbo but it sounds like the bearings have gone, probably due to the previous little old lady owner not getting the thing serviced for over five years Shocked

Just before it went in I was also getting some strange noises from the front near side that I put down to the wiring work I had done and something catching/rubbing. I am wondering if I could hear the turbo blades rubbing in the casing ?

Might be worth checking the turbo impeller for movement and not catching on the casing.

Hope it is not this and something a lot easier and cheaper to fix Thumbs Up
