wipac 7" cristal headlamps
Hello,

a question: Can I fit the newer (TD4) headlamps from wipac in my defender TD5 without great electrical problems? Must I Install an electronic controll gear or so? What's up with the connectors/ cables?

I don't see why not... The bowls simply hold the bulb in with a spring clip if I remember correctly and the plug you should have for your TD5 will just plug into the back of the bulb. Do you have height adjustment on your lights or levelling? $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Fit straight in Thumbs Up

Put them on my 2001 TD5 a month ago, no issues at all. Remove the headlamp, take the bulb and holder out and put into the new lamp and refit.

Thank's for the mega-quick answer.

Shall I buy the complete set incl. controller or are the lamps "standard". I must open the clamp arround the old lamps and fit the new ones?

Which supplier can you suggest?

You should just buy the Crystal lamps as a unit what you see you get inc the clip at the rear to hold the bulb. By the "clamp" I assume you mean the bezel around the lamp that holds it in place... If so yes you will need to remove this to remove the lamp it's self. If you go to all this trouble I would suggest you upgrade your bulbs and also upgrade to Stainless Steel bezels also (these won't rust) For the Crystals I would suggest Paddock spares. Upgraded bulbs you can get anywhere i.e. E-bay and the Stainless bezels Mobilecentre (site sponsor) or E-bay and a couple of other places I think sell them.

Do these headlamps improve light output compared to the standard TD5 headlamps? 1999 Defender TD5 110

Hard to say on that one... Most people have them for appearance alone I think but the bulbs certainly do! They are extremely good quality though so no regrets in swapping over from glass quadptics.. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Yes if you upgrade the bulbs Thumbs Up

I have Night Breaker plus in mine and they are much better than standard. Also have them fitted to the Puma.

Purchased mine for the plastic lenses, one less thing to worry about off road.

Same reason here...... beats having to change glass lenses after stone chips.

I think they do increase light output, although I can't quantify that. I upgraded my bowls after upgrading the bulbs.

They definitely do give a sharper cutoff, so more available light up to the top of the dip beam, which has got to be a good thing.

Philips exteme bulbs in mine. Much brighter white light output. And as above was waiting for a stone chip to become an issue. Now I won't have that now. Smile $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R
