Disco ECU into a defender?
Any Td5 guru's out there....

I'm building my Td5 90. got the engine and all standard wiring in. I've borrowed an ex discovery Td5 ECU, just to get it going and until I find a proper NNN defender unit.

Question is. should/would the engine run with the disco ECU plugged into a defender loom? It's the ECU that came with the engine, so injector codes will match. I've just got to plug my nanocom in and get the 10AS linked to the ECU, however my nano can't "init" the ECU, and when I turn the ignition on, I don't get the glowplug light or the fuel pump pressurising...

Not sure if that's because I've not matched the 10AS and engine ECU yet? I can't remember from when I did my 110 ages back if these are the symptoms caused by the two not being linked.

Possibly i've just got a power feed off somewhere... underseat fuses are AOK, temp guage goes up quite high (as to be expected with the disco ECU in place), got a proper earth onto the casing of the ECU, good voltage at the battery. good earth on the engine to chassis.

There's no alternator/battery light either, which may/may not explain anything?

A D2 ECU will work in any Defender td5. Just that some things (e.g. fuel gauge) won't be right, but the engine will run.

Injector codes are not too important. Even if incorrect, the engine will run fine.

I suggest the issue is with the security re-learn as you stated.

Got it running. Had a bad earth on the battery, which although was showing 12 or so volts, it had no current to it. and a fuse missing for the immobiliser (the fusebox behind the gearstick)

Bit of priming and away it went.

Lots more jobs now to finish Thumbs Up
