as I'm sure many of you will be aware there's a spare live feed in the rear o/s rear wheel arch that many have used for an aux outlet in the rear.
my concern is that the electrical connector that is on the loom has fallen off due to the copper corroding thro LR kindly crimped a new one on......and hey presto the same thing has happened again !! I didn't think copper corroded ? - so what causing it - should I be concerned about the rest of the wiring loom? |

If it's still a live feed and dampness is getting in the wiring the corrosion can and will track back under the insulation. Electrically iosolate the feed, cut the connector off and cap the end of the cables with heatshrink or tape and seal them up enough to stop water ingress would be my advice. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Are you referring the the spare feed behind the speaker panel, if so perhaps you've got a water leak behind there. If the rest of the loom and connectors in that area look ok I would just cut back and re-crimp some new terminals on there and then cover them in silicone grease or petroleum jelly. Steve.

not sure if its different on a 90 - but would imagine all the 110's are the same.
in which case surely everyone else's spare connector (behind the speaker panel) will also be getting wet (water from wheel arch when out in the rain) but probably haven't fallen off ? I'm sure there's plenty of other connectors that get wet (can't think of any at the moment) yet haven't fallen off? plus would you expect it to corrode / rot through in 9 months ? |

The connector on mine is behind the speaker panel, above the wheel arch - inside the car and away from the road salt / spray - is yours under the wheel arch?

TBH mine is not had hardly any wet weather driving. I want to Dinatrol it soon and have tried to keep it clean but will heat shrink the connector to prevent corrosion. 993 Varioram - Guards Red
