Traction control
Is there anyway apart from the obvious of testing that the traction control is working? This morning I had to pull across a junction a bit quicker than I would have liked and the because it was a damp road I got a bit of wheel spin from the rear axle and the TC light on the dash did not come on.

Thanks

Boy

Try taking off rapidly with your nearside wheels on a grass verge and your offside wheels on tarmac.

I remember being told by an LRE instructor a while ago that the ABS / Traction Control on a Defender is 2-channel, rather than 4-channel as on a Disco or RR, which means that it only acts on the front wheels, not the back. No idea whether this is correct or not! I think one of the selling points of the 2012 2.2's in the brochures was a change to 4-channel ABS and TC, acting on all 4 wheels. But I could be wrong about that too! Just things dragged up from the memory banks. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

OK so even though it was one of the rear wheels spinning the TC should have cut in. Thumbs Up

depends or the amount of movement in comparison to the rest.

so if you were moving of and a wheel span a little then no probably not. It got a different system in 2011 MY.

does the abs work?

OK this is what happened. Lights changed to green and I was turning right, because of the way the junction is I could not see up the road to the right where I want to travel. I pulled away in 1st and change to 2nd, then I start to turn right and now can see up the road. Coming down the hill at a hell of a rate is a saxo/pug or something driven by a young person. You know the type wide wheels, lowered and big exhaust, whole car worth about £2.50. He has not noticed the light are red for him and slams on the anchors! He is skidding towards me so I floor it and turn right at the same time the rear off side wheel is spinning on the damp road and making a noise like a episode of Starsky & Hutch. The wheel was spinning for about two to three meters. As I pull straight and drove up the road.

If you want to do a simple test, jack a wheel up off the ground, turn the ignition on, (you don't need to start the car), and spin the wheel. The ABS/TC should activate the brake on that wheel.

Cheers,

Tim
