Unlike the 7" lamps, which are common to a huge number of vehicles and provide an obviious advantage, a bespoke product compatible with a number of Defenders made since 2002 isn't going to pay for the tooling even.

The only option I can think of to make it cost effective would be to use some sort of rapid prototyping like 3d printing and an existing lamp or go down the generic route already suggested.

How about just changing to an LED bulb? or frenching an LED unit into the roof and removing the high level light from the window all together?

Only bouncing an idea but would one of those light pads work, like those umpteen leds that are used to replace interior lights?
I replaced the interior bulbs in mine and used a pad led set up in the rear light in my 110, this came with an adapter to enable it to use the original bulb socket, in my case a festoon fitting. In the packet there were adapters for capless and a small bayonet fitting.
What I'm wondering is whether one of these pads could be put in the rear high level brake light housing and an adapter to power it via the existing bulb holder. It would be fairly easy(if your eyesight and dexterity is younger than mine) to take a bulb, get shot of the glass and solder some wires into the base.

In the UK, it's hard to believe that anybody would know or care. Darren

Yes, a bit different than here in Switzerland. The UK apparently is a bit more like France when it comes to things like modifications, etc Whistle Rolling with laughter

Sorry abt that, could not resist Bow down You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Oooh, that's a low blow Laughing

Seriously though, and not withstanding the legality of this particular detail, if the rules about modifying vehicles are tightened up in the way our EU colleagues would seem to prefer, it's going to take a lot of the fun out of it. Darren

Exactly correct Thumbs Up The lamp would have to be E approved with the test alone costing £2000 after you have done all the design work

Slightly OT but if anyone has any suggestions for a 3rd brake light for my 90 Soft Top (was pick-up) with a swing-away wheel carrier, then I would be very interested. I've often thought of crafting on a Freelander 1 'Logo' style high level brake light, but I think the fabrication if way beyond me. An off-the-shelf solution would be good.

Yeah, I've been keeping an eye on eBay but have not found one in 2 years!

Would be ideal though.
