Only bouncing an idea but would one of those light pads work, like those umpteen leds that are used to replace interior lights?
I replaced the interior bulbs in mine and used a pad led set up in the rear light in my 110, this came with an adapter to enable it to use the original bulb socket, in my case a festoon fitting. In the packet there were adapters for capless and a small bayonet fitting. What I'm wondering is whether one of these pads could be put in the rear high level brake light housing and an adapter to power it via the existing bulb holder. It would be fairly easy(if your eyesight and dexterity is younger than mine) to take a bulb, get shot of the glass and solder some wires into the base. |

No good, as it would make your center breaklight completely illegal then as it is type approved for incandescent bulb only...... You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

In the UK, it's hard to believe that anybody would know or care. Darren

Yes, a bit different than here in Switzerland. The UK apparently is a bit more like France when it comes to things like modifications, etc Sorry abt that, could not resist You never actually own a Defender. Oooh, that's a low blow Seriously though, and not withstanding the legality of this particular detail, if the rules about modifying vehicles are tightened up in the way our EU colleagues would seem to prefer, it's going to take a lot of the fun out of it. Exactly correct The lamp would have to be E approved with the test alone costing £2000 after you have done all the design work |

Slightly OT but if anyone has any suggestions for a 3rd brake light for my 90 Soft Top (was pick-up) with a swing-away wheel carrier, then I would be very interested. I've often thought of crafting on a Freelander 1 'Logo' style high level brake light, but I think the fabrication if way beyond me. An off-the-shelf solution would be good.
