Anyone got any experience of these tents? looking for a good quality quick tent

Not had hands-on experience of pitching or sleeping in one, but I have had a very good look round one in a South African outdoor shop. Seemed very robust. Typical South Africa safari dome tent; spring-linked steel poles, good quality polyester canvas (similar to Oztent fabric), nice chunky zips, robust ground sheet.
If you're used to nylon / polyester tents, the experience of sleeping under polyester canvas will blow you away. Quieter in the rain, darker in light mornings, and more breathable giving a better atmosphere and less condensation. I've got a Jet tent from Brendan (Overland 4x4). Easy to set up and good quality (I think so anyway). Have used it in heavy rain, strong winds and not had a problem.

I have an Oztent RV4 plus the front and side panels. Bought it as a "second" from Boab a few years ago. TBH, I'm thinking of selling it. I'm finding it more of a pain getting it on and off the roof as I get older. I'm thinking about a Lavvu, so I can have a fire in it.
The Oztents are pricey, although I've found the quality of ours OK. We've built up our accessories over the years (tent, side panels, front panel and footprint). I priced them all up recently; over a grand's worth! I also have an Ozpig woodburner (no relation to Oztent). Hi Yobbie, thats interesting as it was the jettent i was interested in but we noticed the black collars on the poles had split, which at the price it is aint good. How long dose it take to pitch?
i like the idea of a tent that fits in the 110 rather than getting roof bars as you would have to with an RV 4/5 |

That was one of the main reasons for going for the Jet tent I got a F25 that fits in the back of a 90. I also have sides and front, it's only the longer poles for the sides that are too long for the back of the 90, but I have found that you can get telescopic 3 part one's to replace the 2 part OZ ones. I guess the black collars you are talking about are on the telescopic poles that hold the awning up? I've had no problems so far. It probably takes me about 10mins to set up although the last time was in Italy and I had to use a hammer to get the pegs in!

The black collars on the Oztent poles are a decrotative feature rather then a funcutional part of the pole.
Yes there has been an issue with these black collars on a recent batch of poles. When selling poles as separate items we do check the poles. If need be we will exchange the poles. Why are some of the collars cracking? I personally do not know but suspect it might have something to do either with temperature or tolerances on the pole and the collar. A few tips about Oztent poles. Drill a 6 mm hole in the rubber foot. This will allow the water to drain out, if need be also allows a squirt of WD40 into the pole. Ensure pole is dry when put away. If drying tent out after a wet period away from home, extend the poles and dry them. When positioning the poles make a 1"/25mm indentation in the ground for foot of pole to sit in. Brendan |

Was just lucky, I went into a camping shop in St Austell and they had them in a box of odd bits, I'll have a look at what make they are tomorrow.
