Ours makes a light noise some times when the engine is turned off in neutral (I don't leave it in gear). It doesn't sound sinister to me.
Will keep an eye on it and approach dealer before end of the warranty for a fresh clutch if need be. The only smoother gearbox i've ever felt was on a LR Experience 110 at Eastnor and the instructor attributed this to it having done almost 80% of it's 40,000 miles off road in tough conditions in low box. |

Humm,
This is the same sound that we discuss time ago, located in the engine (like a pump that are working in dry) or is it other? Our makes this noise (3 almost non audible clanks) from new and also after a new clutch assembly. Can you explain more AndrewS, from were is comming and how loudy is? Cheers PD Looks like a joke or not? All Pumas do this noise when you turn off or I'm wrong? The noise is very light indeed, in fact quite soft too. I don't remember not hearing it and we had anew clutch after 6 weeks of owning and that is 3 years ago in May.

The EGR makes a noise when the engine stops this is an under bonnet noise.
The nackered clutch noise can be heard coming from the underside of the car. Get out the car, turn off the engine, just as the engine stops you will hear a couple of metallic clunks. The next stage is constant metallic clunking at tick over. This noise can be exaggerated when the AC is turned on. The AC loads the engine drops the tickover speed a little and the noise increases. |

I get 5 (always 5) thack, thack, thack, thack, thack, noises from around the back of the engine every time I turn it off I've been told this may be the wastegate.
Already had the clutch done and the noise Andrew described was also present in the clutch when you started the car without the peddle in. 110 2.4TDCi 110 300Tdi LROCV ::: AULRO.com |

Defender man here at heart....
For information purposes...what I would say, with my Disco 1 I have had the same sound for about 8 months now....to confirm it was the clutch I put the power hose lance in through the wading plug hole to give it a good soapy wash out...straight away upon stopping the engine, the noise disappeared......a few days later the noise returned. So,next month,I will order up a new clutch. By the by,when I let the clutch out there's always a couple of clicking sounds too which is not the CV joint. There is 302,000kms on my engine at present, all on its original clutch,so it's about time it was wearing out!! |
