Entreq dual battery system
Start to get interested in this modification. I read a lot here about Optima batteries being used for that, but does anybody have experience with the Entreq installation? I know it is terribly expensive, but they always have superior quality.
I like a lot the additional jump start kit with the Nato-socket on the left wing which I would have installed at the same time.

Eric

No experience of the entreq kit. I installed a dual battery system in a sililar way to many many other land rover owners. I used a pair of Odyssey batteries (PC1500s) (not optima), a bluesea controller and about £80 worth of cable, connectors and misc fittings. Talk to Tim at mobilecentre he is selling kits.

Approx costs:

Odyssey 2x Pc1500 £200 each
controller 1x £200
battery connectors £50
cable / connectors £30
Devon 4x4 tray for tdci £50ish
fuse box £50ish

so £1700 does seem steep, does that include fitting and a full valet ?

If you are ok with vehicle electrics you can do it over a weekend, happy to email you any pics

The Nato socket is a great idea that should be adopted as standard by LR.

Steve, thanks for the detail.

Fitting at the Entreq workshop is included, yes. They do not even sell the system for self-installing.
A full valet service, come on, for that price that would be a bit over the top, no? Whistle Laughing

Seriously now, you add the total cost up to about half of the Entreq price. There are of course German labor hours to be added, I don't know how many hours work this means to do a top job, but of course not £800....
I guess the Varta AGM batteries they use are top quality too, probably better than any other.

The jump start kit with that Nato socket, that seems incredibly practical in case of external power needs, or in case of need for some battery charging.... But that is additionally priced, not included in the base twin battery offer Big Cry

Anyway I won't decide this today, and first would need to discuss with Autobritt if such a modification would affect my extended warranty which runs 2 more years....

IF, and I say IF, someone has this Entreq installation, I still would like to hear how they like it Thumbs Up You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

FWIW... the UK slave start sockets & plugs look like this:

(although beware if you accept a jump off of a friendly soldier.... they're all 24v!)

Just puting my four penny worth into the pot.
Watch out for the Nato connections as they suffer from salt corrosion badly. Mine are done for after two years.
Seen somewhere some plastic versions of the same fittings and am about to swop over to them this autumn.

What deteriorates so fast?
The entire green Nato socket assembly housing, or only the electric connectors inside?
If the latter, presume regular spraying of the electric connectors inside the cover with WD-40 should avoid this problem? You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

I used to have one on my old 90, and even with the screw on cap I got corrosion in it.

Although to be honest, I never bothered with any anti-corrosion protection (WD40 or coppaslip or vaseline) so it's my own fault.

Got Anderson connectors now mounted in a hole in the seat box.

Ok. I have the fixed socket with the screw cap on the front of my Landy, the same on the back.

Both of the sockets have suffered bad salt corrosion on the aluminium outer parts of th housing. Salt under the paint.
The threads on both screw caps are water proofed with marine grease.
The cable feet inside are ok with no corrosion.

I have 50mm2 (Used from the CH Railways for earthing power lines down to the track) cables and an isolator switch to the battery and a massive marine ca 450Amp relay to operate the power to the cables.
Double battery system from IBS. Rear demontable 4000Kg pull winch.
The whole system can be shut down with one key at a low voltage from inside the cabin.
The battery system has two sets of fuses. One set from Iveco with 400Amp as main and then split down to multiples of 50Amp down to 20Amp to drive other projects. Cooler box, computer, auxilary heating systems.

Well thats my set up and it works.

Set my lot up for a couple of hundred quid.
There are some pics of the winch set up in my gallery.
