Defender 90 TD5 advice
Hi, I would appreciate some advice on my Defender 90 TD5 (03).

Does anyone know what the rear support arms that holds the rear quarter (wing) fixed to the chassis is called? It's an 'L' shaped bracket and I need to replace both sides; I've searched and search and found nothing.

Second question, if I replace the center exhaust section with a de-cat'd pipe will my car still pass it's MOT, both in terms of emissions and in accordance with MOT (VOSA) standards?

Third and final question............ Is it common when steering (typically when stationary) to hear a humming noise almost like the pump is running dry? I've check my levels and all is fine and the steering assistance has never dropped out thus making me think the pump must be in good health.

Thanks (apologies, i'm new to this).

In answer to your questions:

1) Don't know

2) Yes. This has been debated endlessly, but as far as I can see de-catting will only make petrol vehicles fail the MoT.

3) Yes, my last two have made the same noise. You get it when steering hard at low speed right? Mine does it when parking. Not sure what it is (oil cavitating in the pump?) but it doesn't seem to do any harm.

Greetings Mark Very Happy

lol - are you the guy that asked a few of us this question about the bracket at Eastnor? Laughing
If so then sorry... i still dont know Cool

Exhaust ... no problem, it will be fine. Although the cat isnt on the centre section, it on the downpipe, so replacing centre box with a straight pipe will have no effect on emissions for mot.
You can replace the downpipe to remove the cat, will not effect emissions [probably improve them, cat's dont do the same thorough job on a diesel]. It will still pass the mot at the moment ... cant say they wont change the regs in future though.

Steering pump works harder when stationary so can make a slight noise ... how loud are we talking?? Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

I don't what the bracket is called, but if you go to your local dealer they can show you an exploded parts diagram and you'll be able to point out the part you need.

Cheers

Being new to 4x4's I've owned normal mid-range cars (GOlf GTTDI,AUDI,COSWORTH, etc) but the thing about having a Landy is that when ever I see it, it makes me smile. As far as i'm concerned, most modern day cars are generic, sharing parts chassis etc.

Good geographical knowledge. That's exactly where it was taken.
