Ford Fiesta upgrade to BMW 123d
What do we think of BMW 123d's ? I'm going to sell the fiesta and buy something a little bigger and I've heard good things about these motors ... any feedback ?

Anyone interested in a ford fiesta 1.6 tdci - titanium, 20-10-2010 (60), red with 59k, FSH ... looking for £6750 (or more) ...

If you can get over the visually challenging looks its a great car to drive, fab engine , nicely screwed together. Mapped ones are silly fast. I'd suggest you avoid ones with M Sport seats tho... And try one without run flats to get something close to reasonable ride comfort.

Don't know if this helps but I have a 5 series 2009 plate and it's losing £600 per month and BMW s have a bad rep for this, but it has been extremely good to me but at the same time it's rubbish as I have done 25k miles and lost 9k in 17 month Sad

Audi prob would be better Smile

@defender-Stu - I had a q5 s-line - it was the most boring car I have ever driven.

Thanks for all the other advice regarding m-sport etc. I do so many miles, I'll go for comfort.

I've just spoken to a mate who is a BMW mechanic and he tells me the 123d is a 204bhp twin turbo, nice but not as good as a 3.0d 6cyl engine. but will return 50+mpg.. so pretty much taken with the idea of a 123d

I've had 5 different 1series and am due to collect a new one in October.
I've had 5 dr, 3dr and coupe...all diesel and all in M sport trim.
Fantastic cars to drive....and now the latest shape has evolved into a real looker.
My fav was a 123d Msport coupe...awesome!...and fab economy too.
I've tried Fords and Vauxhalls..... They just don't match up.
I would (and have) recommend a BMW to anyone. Make today a little better than yesterday but not so good as tomorrow....
Defender 90 HT............Pangea Green
BMW X3 Msport............Carbon Black
Mini Electric................Grey. (wow!)
MGB Roadster……..........Vermillion 17k miles
Honda Benly CD200....Maroon --------McLouis Fusio........7.4m of fun

Can't comment on the 1 series but I happen to be a farmer who drives a BMW (as well as various Landrovers). I needed something to replace my ageing Subaru with better economy so test drove loads of Eurobox diesels and to be honest not a single one of them was as nice to drive, handled anything like as well or held the road like my 13 year old Scooby (bog standard non-turbo one I hasten to add). Then I tried a BMW and that was it. I now have a car that is rewarding to drive and returns 47 mpg plus day to day and upto 60mpg on a long run. OK so mine is "only" a 320 but it has a map and a fair turn of speed if asked.

Driven a 123d M Sport coupe. Nice looking car. Very nicely put together, the best gearchange of any car I've driven (lots), nicely balanced as someone else has said. Not as quick as I thought it'd be I have to say - torque is on a par with cars with much lower bhp figures, it just revs a lot better. I think they come with runflats which is worth considering (cos they cost a fortune).

Two guys in my office drive 5-series BMs. One has never had any trouble in 3 years, the other has pretty much had a whole new car by now with all the bits that have broken. Can't quite work it out Confused
