Fitting Entreq door strips
I am in the process of the fiiting Entreq door strips to my MY11 90.

Before I get the Dremel out, I assume that the cut out notch on the strip is designed to clear the joint on the seat box? Mine is about 7.5mm out, so it looks as if I need to enlarge it.

(rushes out to double check) yes they are, but pretty near impossible to get them the wrong way round.

Can only be one answer then, your Defender is a cut & shut and has been shortened by 7.5mm in the process Shocked Rolling Eyes

Seriously though, haven't a clue - try Brendan / Leeds he is the importer for these

'Very Happy' I hope not it's only 7 months old.

I don't really want to bother Brendan, i did not get them from him and he has already been very kind in advising me about another issue.

I'll sleep on it I think, but it does looks as if Mr Dremel will be my friend.

Thanks John, but on a TD5 yours would have been a different type.

Could you stand back a bit with the camera? It's hard to understand the full problem.

I fitted a set on a 110, and did not have to do any cutting ... took about an hour to fit all 4

I take it you bought the ones without the rubber strip because you have a MY11 and they have the bigger rubber door seals ?

HI BPMan, yes just so, no rubber strips.

I will need to either cut or grind them to get them to fit, The elongated holes allow an element of adjustment but not sufficient to get the cut out and seat box joint to overlap, overall length is spot on so so I can't trim the ends and I cannot see how I have fitted it incorrectly. So no choice really. It will be interesting to see if I have the same problem on the LH side.

Thud: basically the issue is that what looks like the U shapes cut out on the strip is designed to clear the thickness caused by the corner joint of the seat box, if it does not clear it, it will not seat correctly. so I need to extend that U-shape to the rear, I will either grind it or use a cutting blade on a Dremel whichever is quicker or neater.

It will be hidden by the carpet when every thing is refitted - I hope.

Is it worth contacting entreq before resorting to cutting? Maybe you have been sent the wrong set, or something else is not quite right.

Just a thought, as if you cut and still not right then you have messed up an expensive bit of metal.

I doubt if you would need to cut the strip. Entreq don't make stuff that needs cutting to fit.

I assume you have downloaded the relevant PDF fitting instructions from their site.

I thought I had better give an update.

In the end I did extend the U cut out on the RH sided and also had to grind out the front two holes a fair bit.

When I came to fit the LH one it occurred to me that the fit of the U cut out will be far less critical if the the seat box carpet was clamped under the fitting. It took a fair amount of removing and refitting to trim just the right amount of carpet (and noise killer mat) to get it to fit, even then it was going to need a fair bit of brute force using the 5 bolts to pull into position.

The cill is designed to go behind a chequer plate cill protector, but of course on mine it could not, the chequer plate was flush against the cill, So I decided to slacken off the chequer plate, bolt the Entreq cill in place and re tighten the chequer plate. That was the theory, the chequer plate had been screwed into riv nuts 3 of which simply rotated. God knows why they used riv nuts when there is easy and clear access for a straightforward nut and bolt fitting.
In the end I managed to slacken off the chequer plate and start bolting down the sill plate, carefully mark out where the two front need enlarging, unbolt, grind out the two front holes and refit.

About 5 hours work in total.......

So I have the RH side not clamping the carpet but just showing a small bit of my shiny expensive sill.

And the LH side clamping in the carpet and looking a slightly neater fit but, 2 of the 3 rear (unground) elongated holes are on the complete limit of their adjustment and therefore the holes are not covered by the washers.

When I get back from Spain I will probably alter the RH side to clamp the carpet, and may see if I can polish up some penny washers to hide the elongated holes.

All in all quite a fiddly task with results not as good as I hoped (but my wife was impressed and said that I am too much of a perfectionist).

To summarise the issue that I had to face.

1. My '12 Landy is in fact a MY11, I would guess that this has some minor differences from the MY12 that Entreq designed the sills for.

2. The fit on the Landy is appalling I could only just get the bolts through the floor panels even without the sills fitted.

3. Having sill chequer plate complicated the issue.

4. having professionally fitted Noise killer complicated the issue.

Oh top tip, do not delay removing the protective film until it is fully fitted in case there is a final tool slip. You wont get the stuff off.
