2015 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 USW Corris Grey
Seat Rail For Defender HT
I have a 90 HT 2.4 (10) plate and I am looking to install seat rails to improve legroom.

I am a considering the bulkhead removal bar from Mud but a little worried about LR warranty etc and really wondered if the seat rails alone might give me the additional space I need. A friend of mine has both rails and bulkhead removal bar done and I find I need to move the seat forward to be comfortable, there is too much room !

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

hi salty,

i'm 5'7" tall and did the seat riser and bulkhead removal from new in my old td5 and found the higher seat more comfortable than when i removed the seat rail.
strangely it was the opposite with the puma and i prefer it without the seat rail.

the seat rails have the seat mountings further back in the first instance so you may not need the bulkhead removed?

try the rails first, you can always sell them on if you don't like the new position.

There is a FAQ section somewhere on Mud's website that makes it clear that there is very little legroom to be gained by fitting seat rails in vehicles where the bulkhead still in place. Thumbs Up '57 Defender 110 XS Station Wagon 2.4tdci

Conclusion in Part !
I have just bought a new Defender so before I sell my old one I removed the seat rails so I could see how it is with the rails off but the bulkhead removed. For me the seat rails + bulkhead removal actually gave too much space (in a Defender, unbelievable I know) I had to move the seat forward to get a comfortable position.

For me at 6'2" I think the set position is not too comfortable with the seat rails, they make the seat too high for me at least.

The bulk head removal is key to the comfort for me, it allows the seat to go further back and the angle to be increased which gives, for me at least, a more comfortable driving position.

Hope this helps others. LR Defender 110 XS Utility Wagon
