puma 2.2L check engine light and the car getting sluggish
Hello there.

I own a 2012 puma 90 with just 12000km i have it since new, but now im facing a strange problem check engine light shows and the acceleration is getting sluggish. i checked with obd II and it says i have a mass air volume circut/ performance problem. im little bet conused what is the problem!!

here is what i tried:
1. i cleand the air filter.
2. cleaned the maf sensor with carb cleaner.
3. looked into the air intake tunnel but couldn't find anything.

I cleared the check engine light several times but still showing.

The nearest dealer is about 1600km away because i bought it from dubai and the delar in my country wont accept it until i open a file for 6500£ which is a huge amount of money.

It's probably not the MAF sensor itself, but that code can often spring up when the vehicle is in an over/underboost strategy - i.e. the engine performance is limited down by the engine management as it sees data from the vehicle which it thinks could be damaging. As you are using a generic OBD2 reader, you won't be getting the full picture. Ideally you need SDD or similar.

I suspect it is all related to Matt and the SA boy's ongoing issue:

Thanks wslr...

But non of the symptoms in the link you post is matching with mine. my viechle is not driving above 2500 rpm and a 50 miles /h of speed. and i only have this trouble code showing p0101. When I first start the engine the check engine sign already exist, in that the car will drive normally but after 10 to 30 seconds the engine power becomes weak and the car gets sluggish plus that you can't go faster than the speed I mentioned.

* The check engine sign already existing. tried clearing it several times but it keeps showing.

Ok.

I think your starting point is limited to checking the basics. Make sure the boost hoses are in place (especially the 2.2 like yours), and the turbo actuator link is OK (should be as low miles). Then really, you need to get the latest software for the engine put on as I expect this may be part of the issue.

The software needs downloading to vehicles using the dealer system now known as SDD (was IDS). Software updates for SDD comes down the web via TOPIx (www.landrovertechinfo.com). I know Autologic (a common diagnostic system mainly for independent specialists) also has the ability to download software to vehicles, but not sure which other DIY type systems allow it.

Either locate an independent with Autologic or visit the dealership with SDD. That's unless there is another system capable of it which I'm unaware of (I only use T4 and SDD).

Before software is loaded onto a vehicle, VIN/chassis numbers and also market type have to be entered on SDD, so I expect (not sure though!) that there are different versions available which are market dependent.

check your Intercooler hose. Mine came loose on the weekend, and just needed to be tightened up to ensure the flow.
Had the same MAF error and symptoms.

Hmmm, strangely enough, I have a Motorhome based on a 2012 Transit, which has the 2.2.

There is a known software issue in that I get the check light if I start it without letting the heater plug light go out.

It doesn't cause any performance issues, it's just a logging error with the software. I wonder if you have the same bug.

I clear the fault and all is fine until next time I forget to let the heater plug go out......

What is the actual OBD2 code number being listed? Craig Rogers

Just faced the same P0101 code. On the motorway speed down to 60 Km/h. Stoped the car and after 20 Km the sampe problem. Two weeks ago I faced this problem also. The dealer loaded the last software, but this seems not to be the problem.

Car has now driven 25.500 Km.

Any update on this problem welcome.

Regards

Your local dealer is outrageous. I'd contact LR about this. They should assist you even though you didn't buy from them. They'll get paid carrying out your warranty work. Good luck sorting out your problems. It's reassuring to see that LR still love to allow their customers to carry out all their Research & Development for them Rolling Eyes

I have the same thoughts as wslr as to your issue. The MAF fault is probably a red herring in relation to your issue. It sounds more like a boost issue with a leak somewhere in the hoses, the MAF sensor is telling the EMS the volume of air coming into the engine and the MAP sensor is telling the EMS a different volume is entering the inlet manifold. So the EMS would fault the MAF as the issue due to the air pressure being different/lost between the air box and the inlet manifold where the MAP sensor lives. The only way to be 100% sure of your issue would be to run, as Richards has already stated the fast idle test on IDS/SDD. Also there has been a recall on the 2.2 hose coming adrift from the turbo as well as the hoses rubbing through on occasion on 2.4's.

Mine will be back from the dealer today. The MIL light problem (MAF- fould) seens to find its origin in the botom turbo hose. The clamping clip cut trough the hose, which gave a leak in the system.

Now the following isues have been solved (Car driven 25.500 Km since April last, when bought new).

- Alarm problem due to non fixed battery terminals;
- Top tubo hose sliped off;
- Radiator hose cut by clip;
- Botom hose cut by clip.

So until now all isues are clamp related!

Otherwise it is still a hell of a car.

Cheers,

Q.

Hi All, new member here (sorry about the user name) suffering from the orange engine light and loss of power issue. I have had this before and it was fixed at my local specialist by re-inserting the lambda sensor that had fallen out of the exhaust. I plan to check this in the morning but can someone advise where it is please? Whistle
