Alarm Bells?

Is it just me or are there a few little alarm bells ringing with this one?

Apparently a 2004, but the reg matches up with a 2011... Also the steering wheel, no headlight height adjustment don't seem to right for a station wagon?

Even if it was rebuilt would it not come back as a 2004 model still?

So basically there is nothing left of the 2004 vehicle, as it has puma engine, bulkhead, doors, tub, seats, dash, blah, blah, blah. Oh hang on there is something of the 2004 vehicle left, the vin and reg that have been grafted on to a stolen vehicle Twisted Evil

Don't see why it needs to have been stolen or dodgy. Dont understand the OPs comment re matching a 2011 reg - what am i missing??

Lots of people re-furb/Rebuild older vehicles with newer parts like that. Me included, but mine is a 300tdi rebult with td5 bits and bobs...... If it is genuinely a rebuild on a shot blasted and glalved original chassis then it looks a nice job to me, although I wouldn't have replaced a td5 with a tdci - everyone knows the td5 is a better engine! Our blog - http://landytravels.com/

It mentions on the listing a few times that it's a 2004, yet on the auto-filled bits of the listing (the bits that eBay fills in automatically when you put in the reg no.) say its a 2011, as does the DVLA.

Even if it was rebuilt with a TDCi engine and all the other bits, surely it'd still be a 2004 model?

If I put a new chassis, gearbox and 2.2 Puma engine in mine it'd still be a 2009.

I could be wrong but if it was a 2004 model, and bought as a write off and re-built using newer bits would it not be on a Q plate? And if it was I wasn't aware that you could put a private plate on a Q plate vehicle.

I could be wrong though.

The eBay spec list also shows the mot to expire 2012 though, which it wouldn't if it was new in 2011.......
As it is ex-military it could possibly be that it was first registered with dvla in 2011, after it came into civilian ownership, but built in 2004 as stated by the owner. Our blog - http://landytravels.com/

The point I was making is that even if the chassis and running gear are from 2004, the rest of the vehicle is not. All the body work, interior, bulkhead, dash, doors, engine, electrics, etc. are from a puma.

Can you imagine how much work and how expensive that would be? To buy all those parts would cost a fortune. I guess they could be salvage parts from written off vehicles, but again that would take a lot of time, effort and money.

Also let's face it, it's an eBay seller with only 2 previous sales; would you really part with over £10k for that vehicle?

In a nutshell....I wouldn't buy it, someone's gone to great lengths and expense to build that, or great lengths and no expense. I wouldn't risk it.

Not the sort of thing you'd necessarily want to buy unseen on an auction site, I'd agree, but if it were in Autotrader or some such, and you could go see it, look at the paperwork, have time to check it out, quality of workmanship, receipts, etc., then I don't see why it wouldn't be a good buy. You'd be getting a lot of vehicle, which would last a few more years than a non-rebuilt 2004, for lost less money than a genuine 2011.

For me what is odd, is more that someone would take all the time and trouble to do such a rebuild and then not keep it and enjoy it themselves. You can never really get back the money that you put into rebuilds, unless you are exceedingly lucky!

With mine, after 2 post-factory rebuilds there is little left of the original vehicle, but it has all been done legally. Spend wise we are probably looking at 18-20K all told (spread over 11 years) but as a 1998 reg vehicle there is no way I'd expect to get that if I sold it. But that is irrelevant as we built mine as a 'keeper'. Having said that, if we ended up with money issues and it would have to be sold, that would be different. I agree with Pam, people spend far more than they are ever likely to get back on there vehicles (including most of us) especially if they perceive them as being 'keepers'

The 'reasurring' part about this vehicle is that it is on a galvanised chassis - you dont steal a vehicle and put an older VIN on and then just for good measure stick a new chassis on it

it seems to have a lot of tdci parts

bulkhead doors bonnet wings rear tub at least. having been down the road of collecting td5 parts for a rebuild it isn't that cost effective as the parts are either damaged and need repairing or nicked

so he's either spent rather alot more than a puma 110 would cost to buy or it's hooky?

although it has his business phone number on the back door plus a tyre related reg. If it was bent then would you advertise the fact?
