Hi,
I changed the oil in my Gearbox / Transfer / Diffs and put new grease in the UJ's today. Thought I would add some pics to aid anyone using this excellent thread which helped me. My 2009 110 has just spun around to 30K. I drained 2.2Litres out of the gearbox but only 2litres out of Transfer Box. Diffs were low to ![]() The Oils used. Fuchs 'Titan' for the Transfer box (2.4litres) Castrol 'Syntrans' for the Gearbox (2.2Litres) Castrol Axle 'EPX' for the Diffs (1.6Litres per Diff) ![]() Transfer Drain plug - ![]() Transfer Filler plug - ![]() Diff Filler and Drain with oil - ![]() Click image to enlarge Hope that helps ![]() Superspoons |

Anyone know the oil filter number for the 2.2 Puma. 2012
This is quoted in first part of thread " The Puma has 1 filter, part number LR004459" but dealer has supplied the following LR 30778 Andy |

That is correct - LR030778 supersedes LR00459. The oil filter for the 2.4 and 2.2 TDCi engines is the same part. |

Hi there, just got my 110 utility xs, ex-demo with approx 2k miles. Swapped my 08 vogue SE tdv8 during the process, bit of a shock coming out of that, however, have to say I wish I'd done it sooner. Any ideas to the question posed above by Jayaway44, castrol Magnatec A1 for 2.4 vehicles without the DPF, but what about the 2.2's? The castrol website says refer to manufacturer, my local dealer didn't seem to know, then they said they only use Shell anyway. I have asked a few people but have received mixed replies. Any ideas? Thanks and good detail MartinK.

You have to use a Ford M2C934-B like the Castrol Edge Pro 5w30.

I was due to take delivery of a 2012 90 XS today , The vehicle was a dealership demonstrator with 2000 miles, I was perfectly aware of the water ingress and
corrosion issues and had booked it in to have the chassis treated , I own another aluminum car and have always used ACF 50 and had planned to treat the defender the same way i was prepaired to except this even though spending nearly 30 grand. What has really concerned me was the gearbox issues that i have read about in this forum and how many times members vehicles have been back to dealerships without the fault being resolved , It would appear that landrover arn't planing any recall may be this is not a widespread problem and i have over reacted in canceling my vehicle. This is my first post on this forum and i would appreciate your views |

There is a guy here who reckons that Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle 75W-90 blew up his LR gearbox???
http://reviews.halfords.com/4028/209809/reviews.htm Are we sure this is the right oil? |

That's talking about the LR gearbox not the Ford/Getrag unit in Pumas - and is only one opinion

No issues from mine after a 2000 mile trip to France and back in the heat. Its the one recommended by OPIE oils too.
and as Martin said... Not the same box either. Puma's are Ford unit's. Cheers, Superspoons |

Minor addendum to this; my MY11 doesn't use a Torx T50 for the gearbox fill and drain, it uses an 8mm Allen key.
Don't know if LR changed things at some point, but mine definitely aren't Torx. Pete |

Hi all,
Using the info on this thread I've just done the change of the engine oil and paper filter. Although it is stated here that the plastic filter housing should be tightened with a 35Nm torque, the housing itself has 25 -0/+5 Nm printed on the outside (also visible on the photo that Martin posted). This is what mine looks like: ![]() Click image to enlarge So I wonder now which value is correct ? Peter, Defender 110 StaWa - Td5 Defender 110 HCPU - Puma Defender 90 Soft Top - Td5 |

I have just been giving my 2011 90 hardtop a bit of a going over greasing and changing fluids etc and noticed that the drain on the main gearbox needs a 8 mm hex key. That's no problem, however the filler appears to be a much larger hex, much bigger than anything in my set.....does anyone know the size of this for this year's car? XS Pete stated that his is the 8mm hex for both fill and drain, some were torx.....it seems Ford used anything going when they built these ...

Had a new transfer box put in mine at end of warranty as a noise like bag pipes (a little bit anyway)kept getting a bit worse as I drove it. I said engine, cook said g/box and independent said rear axle. The Cook won, the dealer said transfer box.
Anyway as I'd decided to change all the oils at 100K (miles) I thought I'd see what the stealer had used in the new T/Box and how much. Spot on for level but then they could hardly get that wrong, but the oil was a thick greeny looking ![]() Searched everywhere and got Castrol Syntrax 75 - 90 universal + Now to do the main box and I think I'll use the same stuff.
