See in your profile you have a 2011 Puma. So presume you buy the annual service from a main LR dealer as required by the 3 year warranty. Should know that LR prescribes that part of the annual service is the replacement of the fob batteries. Make sure your dealer does that. I have a 2008 Puma and never had fob battery issues, so presume my dealer diligently follows the LR guidelines. I hope they do of course, as never really asked about this You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

It would seem that AlisterC had a dud battery as the battery change in the Keyfob is part of the "B" service i.e.: every 24,000 miles or 2 years, according to the service schedule information I have, and if he has a MY 2011 wouldn't have had a "B"service yet unless he is a high milage driver. It's sept 2011 2.4. So no service happened yet
So, it was either a dud battery or I am completely off in my diagnosis, and it was a freak of nature that the problem was fixed by this. Time will tell! What led me to this was that the spare keyfob worked perfectly |

Probably a dud battery. I don't know if the fobs are made for each vehicle, more likely made in large batches then synced to each vehicle, so the battery could have been live for a while before being selected. As the spare worked OK then unlikely to be the vehicle, more likely the fob or battery and I doubt if they use high quality batteries especially if it is written into the 2 yearly service to CHANGE the batteries automatically. On my wifes MX5 it says to change the battery every 5 years. LANDYWATCH
