CAT D Defender TD5 2006/56 - Black
Looking for a 2nd car and a lovely 110 TD5 CSW has popped up local to me. It's got nice miles at 35k and 3 owners. Winch and bumper, expedition rack, Brunel uprated intercooler and chip, lightforce lamps etc. No service book but receipts to cover the last 3 years. Sadly a CAT D light cosmetic damage car.

Done lots of research and guy who bought it off the insurance company was an authorised LR repair centre. Bought it for himself and did 4.5k work. I have the receipts and a proper job was done. He then sold it to the guy who traded it in. This chap lavished cash on it in the form of 'nice bits' and 3years later traded it into LR for a TDCi. They traded it out to the garage I'm looking it at. Have spoken to 2 of the 3 owners and all loved it. It's been pro waxoiled for last 4 years too.

I've done lots of groundwork and it's a lovely car. Shame as a '56plate it's the higher tax but hey ho.

Was up for £12995 and they are willing to let it go for £12250.

still a cat D and that will always put off any buy in the future, any car with bad history does.

I had a CAT D Honda CBR 600RR which I bought off an insurance company. Had fallen onto another bike in the wind and had a scratched tank, broken off wing mirror and broken footrest. Was 3 years old and paid £900 for it with just 3k miles on the clock.

Bought all the bits off ebay and had it looking new for £300. Sold it 3 years later for £3750.

Non-cat ones were going for £4500 at the time so agree, will always be a little lower in price. 1951 80" S1 2.0

Sounds alright, if you get it at the right price for you. Like you say if the vehicle is tidy and you buy it under-priced you can always sell it under-priced - its a no brainer to me

yes because in this case you had very little margin for a loss.

where as £12250 is alot of money. i only got £15 000 for my tdci 08 plate with 35 000 miles, full service history and no bad history.

and its the reverse of what you did, someone has brought it cheaper, done the work and now selling it for more.

i would have thought with its history more £7 - £8000 would be more reasonable.

good luck in the hunt mate, their are some good ones out there and its a "buyers" market at the moment with the recession.
