remove DPF ?
Hello,
did somebody remove the DPF from an 2012 Defender with 2.2 Puma engine?

The DPF from our new Defender is broken now at 1080km.
Errorcodes P2463 and P246c, DPF full and regeneration not possible, MIL on, active light on in red, no power any more.
The Landrover dealer orderd a new one, but it will take some days to be delivered and fixed.
If it happens once in a while, it will be a desaster for an car wich ist used commercial.
I think the Problem are the sensors, if the DPF is removed, the pressure for both sensors is equal and i know from other cars, where somebody broke the Filter out of the box, that the ECU will recognize this as anl error.

In the moment i only have 2 ideas, "decoding" the Sensors from the ECU, perhaps with using the software from an Frord Transit without DPF ( i own one myself) ore identify the resistance value the sensors give out when the DPF is clean and build some "coded" plugs to simulate the ECU an clean DPF.

Then change the DPF to an normal exhaust tube, ore perhaps a cat from an 2.4 puma.

Re: remove DPF ?
Notwithstanding that the DPF may be required legally.....

The pressure each sensor sees is going to be proportional to engine load and RPM. Although you could read this from the ODB2 connector and use the throttle position sensor as being proportional to load for a given RPM, I wonder if you could achieve the same thing by moving the sensors to different places in the exhaust pipe.

There is a pressure drop along the length of the pipe and it may be that say one sensor in the exhaust manifold and another in the tail pipe would give sufficient pressure drop to fool it?

Another option would be to replace the filter with a constriction which causes the same pressure drop. You could find out how much using a simple butterfly valve in a pipe with the sensors on either side. Once you find the right valve position, weld it in place.

This strikes me as easier than trying to implement it with a micro controller + software (even for someone like me who has a lot of uC & Software experience).

The P2463 code points towards a maximum soot mass. It's not clearing itself.

I've had a few reps in recently offering DPF cleaning products. Trying this may be a better option, although perhaps just short term? Wurth and Wynns/Forte were two of them.

I can't help but feel someone is making a lot of money out of DPF manufacturing, as with 'Type approved' cats. Probably me cynical as usual, but someone in a senior position in Brussels... Evil or Very Mad

Hello,
-Cleaning: i thought about it, we sometimes clean DPF's with the system from Liqui Moly, ore in hardship case with an kärcher. But the Defender is two weeks old and the technician of the dealer had once a time in february same problem with another Defender and ad this time something in the DPF of the filter matrial was broken.
probably its the same problem, because it did not start cleaning bevore showing the errors.

-South Africa Software? OK, that's an useful information.
i will talk with the dealer.

regards

All above is what i am looking into at the moment as i am sure my turbo is stalling due to the excessive back pressure in the top part of the exhaust, my turbo was glowing cherry red last night after pulling up Shap Southbound BAS are looking at a cat style removal pipe and an euro 4 map c/w egr run close, they are busy with shows at the moment but it is their top priority when they are back in the workshop, my name is on the list as a high mileage donkey tester for it, as most people on here already know i hate my new 12 plate worst 90 i have ever owned, my 300tdi pulled trailers better, just back in Devon now A303 towing is now painfull used to be a joy in the 57plate 2.4. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

“someone is making a lot of money… someone in a senior position in Brussels”

I do hope that’s not meant to be serious… that’d be like blaming an office manager in Swansea for the four hundred quid VED on a Range Rover, or a clerk in your local tax office for any increase in income tax or pension contributions.

“Brussels” is simply the HQ of European bureaucrats who - just like the UK’s Civil Service - implement the policies of the politicians YOU voted for.

did you then just put a straight through section on the exhaust where the dpf was?

im guessing this wouldn't be illegal or fail an mot as its making it no different to the 2.4.
