Are there any reasons, other than a flat keyfob battery, why my Td5 won't respond (immobilise/unimmobilise/flash hazards) to pressing the keyfob buttons?

Long shot but does the fob need to be re sync'd ?
With vehicle unlocked, take battery out of fob and then hold both buttons down for 10 seconds to drain residual power. Battery back in then press lock four times and unlock once. That will sync the fob back to the ECU. I went through Bob's recommendation a few weeks ago and everything worked fine for a while but now, after a few days of not using the keyfob to lock / unlock, I have got no immobiliser (I stick the key, turn it and the car starts) and the keyfob won't re-sync. I tried the fuses and they all seem fine, INCLUDING F8 which triggered the alarm horn when removed?!? I am confused. Thank you

We think Land rover alarms are odd.
Two years ago I was staying in Plymouth for a few days and needed a motor as I hadn't taken mine down on a 400 mile each way trip, anyway hired a Jeep Grand Cherokee with 200 mile on the clock arrived at the Hotel and was getting luggage out of the back when the doors locked and the auto boot lid started to close I jammed the bags on the closing lid and grab the keys off the boot floor. It turns out there is a setting from the factory which after 5 minutes locks all doors including the boot, the setting is only altered if you ask at time of delivery Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to ![]() Richard |

thanks as always to this forum that got me back into my defender when the fob just packed it in and I presume the spare fob wasn't coded to the car - all back up and running now - PHEW! was a bit hot under the collar as the alarm blared away for a while there! However as an aside, is there any way to get it going with just the key if the fob dies again? I can obviously get into the car but is there any ignition key sequence or something you can use to disable the alarm and immobiliser if the fobs die as I have both original keys, or if they are dead is that, that? The main thing is that I am up and running again and I will make a note to change the key fob batteries more regularly having got stuck - although I am sure I'll forget/get lazy eventually so its good to have a plan B.

Thank you, new to the Defender and helped someone out by replacing battery in remote Fob. Didn’t realise I needed to follow a procedure until it didn’t work after. This processs worked and 2005 90 TD5 working again. Many thanks !!! |
