Waterproofing sealant choice
Done a fair bit of searching on the forums before posting. Found a few brand names and sealants for decision.

Can see daylight through a few places on my defender hard top. The seal between the hard top and tub looks a bit worse for wear so going to give it a good seal all round, inside and out, even in the tub bottom... might as well.

Will be looking for a black coloured sealant. Which would you buy out of these two I've found from this forum:

Sikaflex 291 Fast Cure Marine Adhesive Sealant - BLACK

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sikaflex-291-Fast-Cure-...317wt_1039

Or one of the Siroflex range super adhesive range

SX MIGHTY STRENGTH MS POLYMER ADHESIVE & SEALANT

www.siroflex.co.uk/sections/SXrange/MSadhesives_sealants.html

Siroflex not far from my Grans for a shopping run too. Thumbs Up

Thanks for your thoughts. Very Happy

Just had two tubes delivered to do the join between the HT and tub on the 90.

Have a read.

Cheers Bob, yours does look like a smart job and was one where I found the brand name.

How quickly does it set?

It's Chawton white so if I prepare it right, there shouldn't be any overflow etc.

Plus if I prep like you did with the masking tape. How deep did you apply the tape as to avoid messing up the job when removing it?

Will 4 tubes be enough for inside and out do you think?

How much per tube?

Thanks again. James

Hi James

That one is not mine just the thread I saw about the product and decided to try.

PM the original poster as I am sure he will answer all your questions Thumbs Up

I purchased two tubes, it is a pain to find in black but probably easier to find in white.

Edit - this is where I got mine from after lots of searching.

Can't comment on the Siroflex range as I have never used it. I can however not recommend highly enough Sikaflex. It is used prolifically through the marine industry above and below the waterline. 'Marine' is for me the keyword in the sales pitch.....If it can withstand the rigours of a sea salt water environment it will more than sufficient for use on a Defender.

Try one brand, if it's rubbish strip off and try the other. I personally would start with the Sikaflex, I've used it lots on the Defender....

Siroflex mighty strength is great. Widely available in Brighouse and Barnsley which is not too far from Casvegas. Alternatively have a ride over to Holmfirth and I'll do the job for you Thumbs Up

Thanks for the offer Very Happy Us CasVegasites aren't usually allowed out of the cave. I've emailed Siroflex for nearest stockist Thumbs Up

I reckon both products will do a quality job. It's just which is the easiest to get a hold of.

Thanks for your input everyone.

Agh! Apologies K9F... I've been reading replies via email updates and totally missed out your comment. Sorry.

I did notice that the Sikaflex is triple the price of the Siroflex... perhaps this is for a reason?

Either way, ginjez job with the SX Mighty strength does look a pukka job.

Tough one... It is something that you want to do once and hopefully forget. Especially when you're getting the headlining out too and giving everything a good once over...

If you have problems sourcing you favoured Siroflex 'pm' me and I may be able to 'acquire' the odd tube of the much superior and 'not necessarily triple the price' Sikaflex.
