Performance wise there is little difference. 300Tdi is slight more refined, 200Tdi is slightly easier to work on. Parts for 200Tdis are starting to get rarer, you get the idea. Apples and oranges.
As far as the conversion goes, it's easier to go from 2.5TD to 200Tdi than to go to 300Tdi, as the latter requires a bit of fiddling with engine mount brackets on the block etc. Noting insurmountable though. If you're doing a 200Tdi, there are differences between using a Disco engine and a Defender one. The latter is easier to fit, the former required exhaust mods and different air pipework etc. Defender bits are 'plug and play' as it were....if you can find them. Obviously Defender lumps cost more! I'm currently in the process of changing one of my 110s engine from 2.5TD to 200Tdi. |

300 is a more refined version of the 200, 200 pure mechanical fuel system, late 300 had some electronics I believe.
early 300's had batches of faulty pulleys that shredded the cam belts (all should be fixed by now) and susceptible to leaking P gaskets behind water pump. Disco derived engines have low mounted turbos, interesting exhaust plumbing, Defender engines straight swap, also some extra studs to fit / drill out to mate to your bell housing. If your 110 is a 1.67 transfer box it'll be horribly under geared, stick the disco 1.2 transfer box in, tweak the fueling and start enjoying driving again! Keith |

I'd go for a 200 there the way forward gear box will bolt straight on its easy as said turbo is different on a disco engine but you can fits 2.5 td turbo on them it does fit or buy one of the manŷ kits they do to re pipe the problem

200 will go onto 2.5NA and TD engine mounts and accept current gbox easily.
300 is more refinded, some say less mpg, some electrics on the later ones which can be bypassed anyway 200disco lumps are cheapest but you will need to modify the exhaust outlet and cobble together inter cooler trunking as nothing off the shelf fits as a bespoke kit. Still very easy to do though. Steve Parker do kits to all ow fitting but are quite £££. 200 def engines are now quite hard to come by and can command a premium - £750 ish the last one i sold went for compared to £250 for a disco lump. i did do a thread on LR4x4 about fitting a disco lump, will see if i can find it.
