I've got a rolling road session on Thursday. I'm not expecting much.

I have this months copy of 'Australian 4wd action' and there is an article on that. Will scan it in once back in Cyprus. But just an insight:
But it is a 2.4 Puma with the following: Bigger intercooler 2.5" turbo back exhaust Uprated turbo Port and polished head On top of that the engine is 'chipped'. I am guessing he is talking something like DTA as it was then tuned up on a dyno. Results are: Power: 138kW (185bhp) Torque: 689Nm Being on the dyno it is WAY more accurate than any rolling road. Number of cylinders doesn't really matter, other than dynamic balance issues and a nicer noise? You've got 2.4l of displacement, so almost as much as a Td5. Of far more consequence would be injection technology, turbo pressure and type, etc etc etc.
I'd have though if you heavily modified it you could strangle 300bhp out of a Puma.... it would explode after 5 minutes, but that's not the point. |

VW can squeeze 174bhp out of a 1.4, ford can do similar with their new petrol engines - it should be possible.

bmw 123d (and Alpina D3) are actually 2 litres and are 206BHP standard (2 turbos to also make it flexible) some tuners are now claiming 250 BHP+ from 2 litre BMW diesels. Did I read somewhere that the 2.4 Puma has a along stroke / bore ratio limiting the revs and hence the power (torque x revs = power) DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

Here's a 1.6 turbo petrol with 300+bhp:
