Rubbish - Injector seals or cracked head.
The 110 decided to start dumping oil last night.

I have no time to look at it so took it to our local independant who confirmed my fears. Will know on Friday after they fit new seals and run it up.

Well, a bit of an update -

Had the injector seals replaced and put a tank full of diesl through it - to find half the diesl in the sump Twisted Evil

Now working out options - Recon head, Low Mileage Engine, New truck?

Those seem to be the options.

New head is £1500 Plus fitting

Low Mileage TD5 - £1350 plus fitting (and I would do the Clutch while I was at it Rolling Eyes )

PX for a 110 USW......££££££££££ 2002 Defender 110 DC

well your up the river without a paddle! So if moneys tight fix it and sell it, then get another later. I'd go head if the miles where sensible although i bought a s/h engine for my old td5 and changed it myself. a puma ££££ more but you can work it into the dealer.

I had my cylinder head changed cos it was leaking water. I got a new AMC head and overall with labour/parts/VAT it came to £2068 this was a 10P engine. 1999 Defender TD5 110

I had figured about the same for a Turners one.

Seems to be a few on eBay with 12month warrenties for a little less, Circa £800 taking that bill down a little.

Leaning toward engine change to be honest. Not a guarenteed to be a complete fix but Ithink the odds are better. 2002 Defender 110 DC

2 weeks ago SWMBO came home in the 110 and I noticed oil splattered all up the back.

On close inspection it turned out to be a leak from the turbo pick up, so before I drove it to the local indy to put a new seal on (I was flat out at work so no time to do it myself) I checked the oil. Despite the large amount up the back an along the chassis the level had gone up.

Local Indy drained the oil, changed the injector seals ran it for a few miles and released it saying it might be fixed, keep checking the levels. One 160 mile journey later mad the levels have risen again, causing me to get a yellow AA taxi home - not wanting to risk the engine any further.

There we are. Injector seals change and sump still filling with oils leads me to the conclusion of cracked head.

The engine has done 130k 2002 Defender 110 DC

Sorry to hear that mate, thought the cracked head thing was more of an issue on the early ones, take it they were genuine Land Rover seals fitted so its not a duff seal causing it again. 2001 TD5 110 County Station Wagon - sold

Mine is an Early - late model if tht makes sense? I both this one as it was post 2002 thinking the issues would be sorted, however the engine appears to be old stock, it ha the plastic dowels for example. 2002 Defender 110 DC

What are the first 3 digits of your engine number ?

10P is the EU2 used up to 2001/2 and 15P is the 2002 EU3.

As far as I am aware the 10P engines were the ones with the pastic head dowels and the ones with the most problems.

Mine is a 2001 but 2002 MY and has a 15P engine fitted. It is a September 2001 registered vehicle.
