Chile 2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Chawton White
Repeated high temp and failure
Just had a call from a chap who was his 2010 Puma broken somewhere around the city. According to him, this problems has been since new! The coolant temp goes to red and the engine just stops (as it should do). He reckons the engine does not feel hot at all so looks like the problem is some sensor-ecu gremlin. After a while and several attemps the engine starts again.

He got the car last friday from the stealer (now everything is ok sir etc) and this is the 3rd-4th time the Defender has been with the stealer for the same reason. He uses the 90 for work and lives at about 1000 km from the only LR stealer we have got.

Any ideas what the problem could be? LR claims they checked everything and changed all sensors etc (bla-bla).

Thumbs Up Puma 110" SW

No idea as such but if the dealers have checked everything I would look at the ECU and reload the software just in case it has a fault afterall computers are not always perfect BM52

Have a look at LR TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN No.LTB00300/2010, 08 July 2010

Highlights of tech bulletin:

Check continuity of inline fuse P110, located under the RH front seat . If the fuse has failed, replace as necessary and check related wiring circuit for any signs of a potential cause, paying particular attention to the harness route around the red colored engine lifting eye at rear of engine and the area around the exhaust gas re-circulation valve for signs of abrasion. Also check the integrity of the under bonnet earth points located on and around the bulkhead. Check for correct operation of the main relay located under RH front seat. In addition look for any signs of arcing or loose terminal connections to the relay.

There was a batch of faulty PCM modules fitted to Defenders pre 14th October 2009. The only way to check if your friend has one of the faulty PCM's is to read the 4/5 digit number on the top right corner of the PCM.

For example 9D98 would translate to 9/4/09.
1. Year 8 =2008/9 =2009/0 =2010.
2. Month C =March/ D =April/ F =June.
3. 044 = Day 44/ 98 =Day 98/304 = Day 304.

This would put the PCM into, the might be faulty bracket?

Brian.
