I have done it and I must admit it was a big, big, mistake.
After removing the whole thing a wasnt able to reinstall it propertly. The leaking problem turned into a leaking nightmare. How I maneged this situation? Like every Lonh term Defender owner. Duct tape. YES.... no more anoying drops from that. As I dont have to open my sunroof anyway, the miracle duct tape got the job done. |

Same here, original LR sunroof from new. Now 4 years later and 58k KM, never had a leak or condensation problem. For me the biggest advantage there is to it is the additional light that enters the cabin and gives a roomier feeling. Direct sunlight not really a problem as the glass is dark enough, and when the sun really burns (yes, here in Switzerland it occasionally does that ) just put on a baseball cap or so. The only thing I do for maintenance is twice per year silicone spray the rubber from inside and outside. For those who think of aftermarket installation as opposed to order original new from LR with the vehicle, I doubt that you can order the genuine LR item afterward. The genuine one has the LR green logo on the wheel used for opening/closing. Aftermarket models won't, for some it may be an issue, for others not of course. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Mine is a year old (from new) and doesn't seem to leak - still get condensation though... a great "wake-the-hell-up" call
I'm thinking about using some creeping crack sealant too but I'm worried it might compromise a perfectly good seal... Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Interesting that you talk about this condensation. Maybe I don't have that as my Defender sleeps under a completely open sided carport, and I also never have frozen windows in the winter, even here in the Geneva countryside. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

For us, I think it comes mostly from the number of people riding inside during winter. Six lots of warm wet breath condensing in one cold metal place can get pretty drippy Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

I already thought the answer to a leaky sunroof is just to fit a slightly bigger one properly Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
